Ethos is an approach to influencing that is based on demonstrating your character, reputation and personal presence.
Classical Ethos
Aristotle described ethos as moral competence that is rooted in practical skills, wisdom, virtue, goodness and goodwill towards the audience.
Modern Ethos
The ancient Greeks commonly used ethos to describe the effect of music on emotions, ideas and behavior. As such, ethos might be interpreted as an inspiring personal presence. A more common translation into modern English is "character, reputation, mood and atmosphere".
