Common Troubleshooting
The scan seems stuck or is not progressing
Spellmatic processes content in batches via WordPress cron. If your site has low traffic or WP-Cron is unreliable, the scan may appear slow. You can try refreshing the dashboard page to trigger the cron, or ask your host if they offer a real server-side cron job as an alternative to WP-Cron.
I see errors in page builder content that look like code
Spellmatic strips out shortcodes, HTML tags, and builder markup before scanning. If you see code fragments in your results, it may be a builder we have not yet added extraction support for. Please report the builder name and a sample of the flagged content in the WordPress.org support forum and we will investigate.
AI scanning returns an error
Verify your API key is valid and has sufficient credits with your AI provider. Use the “Test Connection” button on the Settings page to confirm the key works. Also ensure your server can make outbound HTTPS requests — some managed hosts restrict external API calls. If the issue persists, try a different AI provider to isolate the problem.
Fixes are not saving to my content
Make sure you are logged in with a user role that has the capability to edit posts (Editor or Administrator). Spellmatic respects WordPress capabilities — if your role cannot edit a post, the fix will not be applied. Also check if another plugin or security rule is blocking REST API write requests.
The spell score seems wrong
The Spell Score is calculated as the ratio of clean content to total scanned content. If you have dismissed many errors or added many words to your dictionary without rescanning, the score may not reflect the latest state. Run a fresh scan to recalculate the score accurately.
How do I completely remove all plugin data?
Go to Spellmatic → Settings and check the “Delete data on uninstall” option, then save. When you deactivate and delete the plugin, all database tables, options, and scan history will be removed. If this option is unchecked (the default), your data is preserved so you can reinstall later without losing your scan history.
System Requirements
WordPress: 5.8 or higher
PHP: 7.4 or higher (8.0+ recommended)
Browser: Any modern browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge)
Server: Standard WordPress hosting. No special server configuration required for standard scanning. AI scanning requires outbound HTTPS access to your chosen provider.
