Wikis are, by nature, collaborative spaces in which people come together to build a community around a specific topic. Here's a quick-start guide to learning about, editing and contributing to the growth of the Static wiki.

Guidelines are recommended practices for doing anything on a wiki. It is usually less strictly enforced than a policy (for our Wiki's policies, visit Static Shock Wiki:Policy). Here are some general guidelines we ask our community members to follow on the Static Wiki.

General Community Guidelines[]

  • Be courteous and amicable. Say hello to others, welcome new users, provide help when you can, and ask others if you need assistance. Being polite and respectful can greatly impact the cohesiveness and success of this wiki community. One of the best ways to do this is to remember that the user you're speaking to is an actual person — not a computer screen. Treat them just as you would if you were talking to them face-to-face.
    • Ask for help. If you are confused or need help, just ask! There are a lot of useful resources here, including our Help Pages, Support Forums, local admins, and staff. Live help may also be available on Discord server. No question is too small!
    • Practice open-mindedness and assume good faith. Since the wiki is open for anyone to contribute to, users of all skill levels and opinions are welcome to participate. We assume that most people who work on a wiki are trying to improve it, not hurt it. If this wasn't true, a wiki project would be doomed from the beginning. If you think there is a problem, it's best to ask the user involved about the issue first, then take additional steps if needed.
  • Look after yourself. The Internet is a wonderful place but it's not the same as the offline world. You can never be sure who you are talking to online, or that they will always be friendly. So always protect yourself by keeping private stuff private. Your real name, address, school name, photos of yourself or your friends and family — all of these are things you should think twice about sharing. Remember, once it's out online, it's out and you can't get it back.
    • In the same vein, respect people's privacy. It's especially important not to try and get personal or account info from people under 18, but it's often unnecessary and even rude to bother anyone for information about their offline life.
  • Contribute to the topics you love. If you're on the Static Wiki, you probably already love the Static Shock franchise. But there's bound to be certain elements you find most interesting — like a certain character, or superpower, or comic issue. To make your wiki experience less burdensome, focus your attention on the topics you find most intriguing.
  • Spread the word! A community is only as strong as all of its members. The more it has, the stronger (and more successful) it will become. So invite your friends and other users who may be interested in Static Shock to start spending time here, and give them tips on how to get the most out of their experience.
  • Build, build, build! Communities work best when they have lots of interesting stuff to bring in new readers and convert them to new editors. So the more good content you can add, the better chance the wiki has of becoming successful.
  • Jump right in! Don't be afraid to get started. Anyone is free to edit a wiki, so start commenting and creating new forum threads.

Discussion Guidelines[]
