Our Harbour Tour ticket also got us a round trip ticket to Devonport which is across the harbour. It was the first permanent settlement on the bay. It is a lovely old district with a heritage street. Now it features shops and restaurants.
We got right off the tour boat and onto the ferry bound for Devonport. When It arrived we found that Brian and Barry who I met at the bar were on the boat. They were traveling with David.. They were going to take a bus tour around Devonport but needed to get lunch. We joined them at the Maunka Restaurant on the Victoria Street. We found a small table on the sidewalk with a view of the Art Deco Post Office building. It was a pleasant lunch. I had the New Zealand Flounder which was a whole fish, fins, heads and all. We parted ways as they went to find their bus. Ron and I strolled back to the pier. On the way we found a place selling gelato and ice cream. One of the flavors was Pear and Chocolate.
While waiting for the ferry I bought a hat. It was leather and made in Australia. I had not seen another like it and one of our rules is that if we like it we better buy because if we don't we will never see it offered again.
We dined with di Vinci. Ok, It wasn't Leonardo. It was another di Vinci who has an Italian Restaurant in Auckland. It was a pleasant little space with a glass front. We knew it was authentic because we heard the waitstaff speaking Italian.
