Laundry before the Europa Kai

We had to do laundry before getting on the boat. We had only been gone 6 days but we were in dire need of clean clothes. We were prepared for that by looking up Waschsalons online and found Eco-Express Waschsalon which has three locations in Nuremberg. So when we had to check out we took a cab to the laundromat and washed clothes until time to get on the boat. We could not board until 4pm but the window was small because the lifeboat drill was scheduled at 5pm and the ship sailed at 6pm.

We got the cab at 11:40 and in five minutes we were standing in the Eco-express. It was a small storefront with 15 standard front loading washers, a specialty machine of some kind and a giant machine capable of 16kg of wash. We picked that one, stuffed all the clothes in and were ready to go. At the back of the store was a large pay panel..I inserted a 10 euro note and got washing powder. Then I started inserting coins and pressing the button or our machine until it accepted it and gave change at around 6 euro 50. The cycle took 30 minutes. The high capacity machine was slinging around a lot of weight in clothes so the drum was built on springs. It was a sight of amusement to a couple of young children who imitated the shimmering as it spun out the water.

The dryers were controlled by the same panel but were labeled with letters instead of numbers. The dryer cost 1 euro for 15 minutes. Two Euros was enough drying for us so by 1:30 we were ready to go and it was too early to go to the boat. The girl at the coffee shop graciously called another taxi and we went back to the Three Ravens, left our bags and crossed the street for lunch.
It was good that we didn't go on to the ship because it was delayed. A cargo ship hit the side of a lock shutting down the river. The lock was temporarily opened for three ships, our ship being the last through the lock before it was shut down for repairs.
