Catchup Saturday
Jan. 12th, 2014 12:53 amWe were moving somewhat slow on Saturday. We didn't do as much as we would have liked. I walked down to Dunkin' Donuts for breakfast. We did lunch at the Fortuna Buffet in the Hotel. It was full of the “Great Unwashed” straight from the casino.

After lunch we went up Sky Tower getting the day and night option. For Two dollars more we could go up again when it was dark. The tower is really a broadcast mast providing the city with radio and television signals. It has two observation decks and three restaurants.

The Orbit 360 restaurant located on the 52 floor rotates while you eat and provides a “high style” menu. It is the most pricey of them all offering kelp, confit and goat cheese concoctions. The Sugar Club is located on the 53rd floor and features a décor of 1930s Art Deco from Italy. I don't know why. The tower cafe on the 50th floor offers cakes and teas during the day and is a bar at night.

The observation deck on the 51st floor with a smaller viewing platform on the 60th floor. On the top there are not metal struts to get in the way so the views are pretty spectacular. We could see the people who paid to walk around the outside. making there way in orange jump suits and harnesses. From the Cafe and the lower observation deck you could see the people who chose to jump. It is a controlled descent on a wire but when a body zooms by the window it can still be disconcerting.

We had dinner at Shakespeare's Hotel and Brewery. It is one of the few older buildings left as the high rises have sprouted in the city. The dining room was on the second floor with a small balcony over the front door. We ate fish and chips and Bangers and Mash out there. Then we returned to the tower for our evening viewing.

We were a little late for the magic hour when the light is just right but it was pretty anyway. We went directly to the 60th floor viewing platform. I discovered that we could get a good picture by standing under the halogen ceiling lamps and no using the flash.

I went out to the Urge bar again but Ron was worn out from all the walking. He talked to Brian on one of the social apps who was standing next to me in the bar.
