It's a bit too soon but something to keep watching as some long-term forecast models want to bring a wet system into Arizona later this month. 🤞
At this point, I'll take any level of green on our map 😂

Phoenix is happy to relinquish the record to Needles, now the hottest monthly U.S. city with 103.2°F (preliminary avg July temp).
Arizona welcomes a few new members to the 100°F+ monthly temp club: Palm Springs (100.0°F) and Blythe (100.7°F). Welcome?
This is the 2nd time
Not a bad first week, #Monsoon2024!
This translates to 200-800% of normal amounts in most locations for those 7 days, not unusual for how things go for an Arizona monsoon. 😂

It's been a tough #Monsoon2023 for most of the state, diving Arizona back into Extreme short-term drought and extending long-term drought.
Locations in green did great! Unfortunately, most locations across the state were much below average.

Recent winter events have really helped improve the Southwest! To date, much of Arizona has received well over 100% of average January precipitation.

Meteorological summer has ended! It runs Jun-Aug (it's how we can easily track data). Unfortunately, many cities and towns in Arizona and the west and southwest just experienced their hottest summer on record (those dark red squares).

Big winners so far: Apache, Pinal, Pima counties, central Mogollon Rim, much of Cochise, Yavapai counties
Needing to play catchup: La Paz, Mohave, Maricopa, Graham, Greenlee, Yuma counties, and most of Coconino, Navajo counties

Every monsoon season is different, but you can watch for clues to the startup of #Monsoon2024, like:
🏜️Ridge of high pressure near the 4 Corners
⛈️Thunderstorms in central Mexico moving north
💧Higher dewpoints surging in near Yuma

This year, Phoenix had 61 days of 110°F or higher, which was the most days/year ever recorded for Phoenix. The stats for the last 5 years would bring the average number of days of 110°F+ to 40.

More good news! Arizona's short-term drought continues to improve from the recent winter storms. Looking forward to the next event this weekend! ❄️
