A thread on likely hospital acquired Covid: For the 7 days to 12 March, 24% of hospital admissions were Covid cases diagnosed in hospital more than 7 days after admission - we'll call these "likely hospital acquired". Pre-Omicron, this proportion was much lower at ~5% 1/4

It is with sadness that I, @lrossouw, have to let you know that Adele passed away from cancer late on Friday. I've known Adele for many years since she was working in Cape Town, to when she moved to Gen Re in London in 2008 and later when she joined my team at Gen Re.

Friday report is now out. covidactuaries.org/2022/01/07/the… I am struck that perception of a “mild” Covid situation is relative. In SA natural deaths were >30% higher than predicted in Dec. The last time weekly death rates in E&W were more than 30% above 2015-19 levels was in Jan 2021.

Hospital-acquired Covid again accounts for 31% of Covid admissions in England. The proportion of hospital acquired cases has been at this high level consistently for many months now and is likely to remain at this level but will not be reported. 2/3

landed in A&E at Barnet Hospital today. Waiting times are long but they are giving me treatment that’s going to get me home tonight. But the announcements over the public address system are that they are in crisis mode. Ambulances queuing, resus full, no vacant beds on wards etc.
