It is the honour of my life to be elected Deputy Leader of Alliance. Grateful to our members for placing their trust in me and to @KateNicholl for an energising campaign. Looking forward to working alongside Naomi to build on recent successes and keep Alliance moving forward.

Congratulations to @AndyBurnhamGM on a seismic victory in Makerfield. At a time when politics too often trades in fear and division, this result is a reminder that the politics of hope, rooted in community and public service, can win the day. Best of luck for the next chapter.

Stop-go politics isn’t working for people in Northern Ireland. But Alliance has a plan to fix it. It’s time to reform Stormont.

Except our proposal for major reform of the institutions, including designations and the POC, predates the current mandate. It dates back to the Agreement itself - it was our position pre GFA, too. Seems he also forgets his own party's call for reform as recently as 2022... 🙄

Before Brexit, under the Dublin Agreement, the UK could transfer asylum seekers to the EU member state responsible for their claim - often the country of first entry. The very grifters complaining about migration campaigned to leave the system that enabled those returns. Where

Without reform, the DUP and SF will continue to hold the government to ransom and pursue their own selfish agendas. Anyone who values devolution realises only reform can end the vetoes and serve the best interests of everyone. - @EoinTennyson

Almost 90% of children released from custody in NI reoffend, most within a month. Across the diversion-led cohort it’s 24%. The deeper into the system you push a child, the worse they do. If criminal justice prevented harm we’d have the evidence. I’d back it if it worked.

Alliance MLA @KateNicholl brands comments made by @JonBurrowsMLA about the Alliance amendment to raise the age of criminal responsibility from 10 to 14 as part of the passage of the Justice Bill as 'deeply offensive'. Catch the debate in full at 10.45pm on @utv.

The only thing the UUP is interested in is slipstreaming behind the DUP and TUV, and obstructing the democratic process. Alliance’s call to reform the institutions has never been more important.

🧵 This evening the Petition of Concern has again made a mockery of Assembly proceedings. We spent over 6 hours tonight debating legislative amendments which we learned part-way through will now go nowhere, due to some of the UUP caving into pressure to sign the DUP PoC. >

Criminal age of responsibility will stay at 10years despite all the evidence, experts & childrens rights organisations saying it is too low. Shame on the UUP & the DUP who have signed the petition of concern to kill this debate. An abuse of democracy & pathetic on every level.

The UUP has lined up behind the DUP in blocking progress. NI had the chance to follow the evidence and raise the minimum age of criminal responsibility, ensuring we were no longer the lowest in Europe. Instead, the DUP, UUP & TUV banded together to block the democratic process.
