We kicked off my re-election! It was great to see so many neighbors yesterday in Astoria. Thank you to my friend and our Democratic nominee for Mayor, @ZohranKMamdani for joining us and for your support. Our movement has won and we’re only just getting started 🌹

Yesterday, we won. We ended last night with a 58% majority, winning by more than 26 percentage points. Neighborhoods across Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens resoundingly elected a 27-year-old socialist Latina to office.

I want to get personal for a moment. I was born and raised in Queens. I’ve organized here my entire life. But one of my opponents (who ran for Congress in another state) is acting like I’m not from here. She has *twice* sarcastically said to my face, “Welcome to Astoria.”

Today @GovKathyHochul had the opportunity to nominate a Chief Judge that prioritizes the needs of vulnerable New Yorkers. Instead she chose one of the most conservative justices on the appellate bench. I hope my colleagues join me in voting NO on Hector Lasalle.

Collective punishment is a war crime. Cutting off food, water, and electricity to millions of innocent civilians is a war crime. Ordering 1.1 million Palestinians to leave in 24 hours when they have nowhere to go is a crime against humanity. 1/2

BREAKING: Israel’s military has directed the evacuation of northern Gaza, a region that is home to 1.1 million people, within 24 hours, according to a U.N. spokesman. apnews.com/article/israel…

I was sworn in today at 11:19am and am now ✨officially✨ Senator Gonzalez! It means a lot that as of today, the youngest woman to ever be elected to the NYS Senate is a Latina and a Democratic Socialist.

I grew up in Elmhurst, just a few miles from Astoria. The insinuation that I am not from, and need to be welcomed to a community I spent time in as a child, in the borough I’ve spent my life in, is condescending and wrong. But we’ve seen these dog-whistles before.

The same opponent and her surrogates are also claiming that I lack support from “the community." White candidates in West Queens have been accusing their Latina opponents of this for years. They tried it with @votejgr and @tiffany_caban—but they won by double-digits anyway.

As the daughter of Puerto Rican and Colombian parents, as a woman, as the only Latina in this race, as someone who grew up between two New Yorks, I’ve dealt with racism my entire life. I’ve been othered and told I don’t belong.

That’s an experience that so many of my neighbors share. It’s also why we need more women, immigrants, and Black, brown and Indigenous leaders in our movement. And it’s why I look forward to representing the diverse communities of District 59 in the state Senate.

I am deeply grateful to my colleagues in the judiciary committee for voting not to move LaSalle’s nomination through committee. This is a huge win for all New Yorkers and is thanks to the work of activists and organizers on the ground who sounded the alarm early on LaSalle.

8 years ago, when Trump was first elected, I was an intern in the Obama White House. I spent election night, and the next two months feeling helpless in the halls of what I was taught is the most powerful place on Earth.
