One of the best coaching books I’ve ever read. Still in the process but would love to get a group together who’s read it to talk about how to apply it in our coaching. Anyone interested?
Jrue Holiday seems to advise kids who play basketball to switch schools so much:
“My parents always told me that if I was good enough, somebody would find me... I feel like I’ve always kept that, and look at the work that I’ve been doing.”
Coaching clinic Id love to hear but never will:
Coach who’s team had a horrible record but managed to keep players engaged, playing hard, competing, and enjoying the process the last week of the season.
That’s a guy we could all learn from!
One of the best things we started doing this year was playing 1 on 1 no dribble from the charge circle. Forced guys to evolve some creativity, use fakes/shakes, pivots, and learn to play angles. Showed up in our finishing by the end too.
“We spend a lot of time really focusing on the parents…”
@UConnMBB Head Coach Dan Hurley, in advance of the National Championship game, on what sets them apart part in terms of recruiting. In his words, they aren’t afraid to say NO to ‘neon talent’ if the player and parents
A super simple BLOB we ran this year and got some easy shots off of. Was inspired by @Qmartin37 - who has some GREAT BLOB stuff.
Start in a diamond. Cross the wings, Back screen and roll hard. Gets more shots than you'd think.
Something I’d like to do - run a private training facility and do this for spring AAU season-
Non top tier AAU kids and grade 4-9 kids train 2x a week and put them on teams and play Saturdays. Play two games back to back and go home. Save families time and money.
You want to get better at handling the ball vs. pressure? Do this. It's random. Defense gets to foul. We put a time limit on it and had winners and losers. Did it once a week during summer workouts and noticed results.

I think this is one of those “be you” kinda things. There is research that says running miles doesn’t help in basketball. But also one of my favorite coaches, @Coachmckenzie had his guys do miles and they won a LOT. I do think the mile had a mental effect.
