Our statement on the Supreme Court's decision. We will have more to say in due course.
The Supreme Court’s decision is hugely disappointing, and a result of ceaseless lobbying from a well-funded anti-trans network with links to the global far right.

We will continue to fight against all attempts to strip trans people of their rights, and will use all levers within the Labour Party to make trans voices heard.

Labour must not follow the example of Donald Trump, and must instead protect the Equality Act - one of Labour’s proudest pieces of legislation - and its legal protections for trans people.

The Labour Party must stand firmly behind the LGBT+ community.

We stand in absolute solidarity with the trans community across the UK. Our community is strong, and we will get through this.

We’re appalled that Wes Streeting will continue the puberty blockers ban imposed by the Tories this year. This move is not in the best interests of trans young people. Here’s some of the concrete organising we’re doing in the coming weeks to build a movement against this🧵

We’re completely appalled to see recently readmitted Labour member @MikeGapes liking a tweet that claims that trans people were not key targets of the Holocaust. This is absolutely disgusting and we cannot stand by. Please complain to the Party below. labour.org.uk/complaints/

You cannot beat far-right politics by pandering to it. We made a manifesto commitment and will not allow any notion of breaking it 🏳️‍⚧️

Shame. Anger. Disgust. Even as Labour MPs line up to voice their opposition for this despicable and cruel attack on trans children the party endorses transphobic policy. We deserve so much better from Labour than bigoted leadership and absent allies unwilling to speak up.

The Cass Review disregards years of evidence, proposing implementations that would have potentially disastrous consequences for both trans youth and adults. No way should a report with uncited claims and limited research scope be accepted so nonchalantly and uncritically.

The Cass Review must be a watershed moment for the NHS’s gender identity services. My response for @UKLabour underlining our support for the Cass Review’s evidence-led recommendations and our determination to put children’s health and wellbeing above the political fray 👇🏻
“Today’s report must provide a watershed moment for the NHS’s gender identity services. Children’s healthcare should always be led by evidence and children’s welfare, free from culture wars. Clinicians and parents alike want the best for children at this crucial developmental stage. This report provides an evidence-led framework to deliver that.

“The next Labour government will work to implement the expert recommendations of the Cass review, to ensure that young people are receiving appropriate and high-quality care.

“I want to thank Dr Hilary Cass and her team for the thoughtful and thorough way in which they’ve undertaken their work. Given the vulnerability of the young people concerned, and the complexity of the issues identified by Dr Cass, it is vital that our politics takes an equally thoughtful and thorough approach. I am committed to working constructively with the Health Secretary to put children’s health and wellbeing above the political fray.”

This is an absolute disgrace. Stomach-churningly disgusting. How on earth can Labour think this is anything but an extinction-level event for trust with the LGBTQ+ community?

If you are a Labour Party member or part of a trade union, it’s crucial that you add your voice to this open letter calling on Streeting to reverse the puberty blockers ban. We’re so close to 10,000 signatures already👇

A statement from Labour for Trans Rights and other trans stakeholders in the Labour Party on today’s announcement by Wes Streeting.
Today’s announcement by the Health Secretary of an indefinite ban on puberty blockers for trans young people is a devastating decision. This move disregards the urgent needs of vulnerable young people and flies in the face of Labour’s manifesto commitment to “remove indignities for trans people who deserve recognition and acceptance.” Trans young people deserve access to gender-affirming healthcare - not further barriers and stigma.
Puberty blockers have long been used safely for intersex young people, those with precocious puberty and in trans youth. There is no credible evidence to justify banning their use amongst trans youth while allowing them in other contexts…

The government has announced that it won't review current restrictions on puberty blockers until 2027. I am gravely concerned about the impact this could have on the mental health of some young trans people. My question to the Health Secretary today:

Today, we went to the Department of Health and Social Care to hand in our petition against the puberty blockers ban. Over 17,500 of you signed. @wesstreeting, listen to the Labour movement. Scrap the ban 🏳️‍⚧️
