Seasonably hot mid-June temperatures this weekend. High pressure builds over far N Mexico next week leading to a warming trend, with afternoon highs likely 10°F above daily normals by mid-late week, resulting in areas of Major HeatRisk across the lower deserts by Thu. #azwx #cawx

We've been monitoring the Sycamore Fire in southern Gila County. This fire has grown to over 3,000 acres and is very prominent on satellite imagery. #azwx

Monsoon season doesn't just include severe thunderstorms and flash flooding hazards. Wildfires and extreme heat are usually the main hazards early on in the season. #azwx

Morning lows were not far from the daily normals, ranging from the 70s to the lower-to-middle 80s across the lower deserts, under much drier conditions and clear skies. Expect near normal afternoon highs as well, near 105°F for the typically hotter spots. #azwx #cawx

High temperatures today were near to slightly above the daily normals. Look for readings to cool modestly the next couple days with highs near to a few degrees below normal under clear skies. #azwx #cawx

We've been getting a lot of questions lately about the start of monsoon season. We wanted to clarify the NWS hasn't been using dew point as the indicator for the start of monsoon since 2008. Instead, monsoon season has specific start and end dates. #azwx

You may have noticed how much cooler it felt this morning. This was due to an outflow boundary that pushed through Phoenix last night. Around 9 PM, the temperature fell 7 degrees in 10 minutes. The outflow also kept Phoenix from setting a record warm low yesterday. #azwx

Drier & 'cooler' conditions are forecast thru the weekend with near normal temperatures. We will also lose any residual moisture starting Friday, ending all rain chances. The latter half of next week should be very hot with highs climbing back above 110°F. #azwx #cawx

900 pm: It took 3 colliding outflow boundaries, but a few isolated showers & storms have blossomed over Tempe and Mesa this evening. Most will see nothing, but slow down if encountering rain along Loop 202 in north Mesa towards Apache Junction.

Strong wind gusts have developed over western Imperial County this evening creating localized channels of blowing dust. In addition to difficult travel for high profile vehicles, visibilities may locally fall below 1 mile in blowing dust.

Today's high temperatures were 4°F to 6°F above normal but still well below daily records. Temperatures are forecast to decrease over the next couple days, with high temperatures remaining below 110°F through the weekend in the lower deserts. #azwx
