Pretty much a dream night for the Conservatives. Scottish Tories win their first Westminster by-election since 1967. Reform underwhelm in Makerfield. At a local level, the party picks up two gains from Reform and retains a ward in Hillingdon.

If this is true, it’s completely disingenuous. And concerning for the future of Devon. We can’t have councils that only favour Labour-heavy Plymouth and Exeter.

A revelation that could have a big impact for the imminent announcement on council changes in Devon. There's been rumours for months Labour Ministers would decide in favour of what suits local Labour MPs & Labour Councils, rather than the best interests of the people of Devon,

Lord Roborough is a farmer and land owner on Dartmoor in my South West Devon constituency. His question highlights the key issue which both Natural England and the government are skirting.

Today, Lord Roborough challenged the Government on Natural England's policy on commons grazing which risks a cull of up to 90 per cent of Dartmoor's ponies. The Minister said Dartmoor ponies "are safe under this Government" but failed to say how ministers will stop the cull.

Excellent summary and highlights the point I’ve been making about Natural England making decisions ahead of the DEFRA authorised Dartmoor Land Use Management Group reporting back. So much work being done behind the scenes locally.

Dartmoor ponies are part of the heritage of #Dartmoor and must be protected, as must the livelihoods of all those grazing livestock on the moor. Natural England must rethink their plans. #dartmoorponies @ponykeepersDTMR #ponies #devon @dartmoornpa

The Government pledged to recruit 6500 more teachers, but the number of teachers has actually gone down. They claim they are still on track to meet their target by excluding primary school teacher numbers. A complete fudge.

Natural England say that they're not advocating for a cull of the Dartmoor ponies. But their proposals will almost certainly cause many (if not most) of the Dartmoor ponies to be culled. Farmers who refuse will be denied funding or forced to kill profitable livestock instead.

Let’s remember the farmers having to make these choices. They already farm on tough land due to the landscape of Dartmoor.

Chief Executive of Natural England, Marian Spain, admitted to me @bbc5live that new proposals could lead to a reduction of ponies on Dartmoor. Natural England is including the ponies in livestock counts under its new moorland agri-environmental schemes that provide payments for

Rather than tackling the cost of living, or funding our defence properly, Labour is going after the lawful sport of trail hunting in their latest attack on rural communities. This strange prioritisation has nothing to do with animal welfare and everything to do with needing to
