With regret I have decided to stop engaging actively with X. The nature of the forum has changed dramatically since I joined 10 years ago. I feel it is no longer appropriate for me to post here. I will continue to engage through other social media platforms.

For any non-surgeons and anyone thinking about a career in surgery, these attitudes do NOT reflect modern surgery and were pretty extreme then. The surgeons I have spoken to are appalled by this portrayal.

4 points: 1. Psychopaths should not be near #patients 2. #Surgeons who say ‘it was me vs the Grim Reaper’ clearly think they are god & are narcissistic 3. Anyone who says they are a ‘brilliant surgeon’ is probably not. 4. #Surgery is a #team game. It is not about individuals

If >50% of F2 doctors don't stay in training but return later, this is the new normal and we have a problem that needs urgent attention.

Two excellent @unisouthampton medical students in my clinic today. Both considering careers in surgery until they missed their surgical placements because of COVID. I hope my encouragement might make them reconsider. @SurgiSocSoton

I am delighted that @mortensen_neil outstanding leadership has been recognised with this honour. And a damehood for former @RCSnews Council member and mentor to myself and many ENT colleagues, Professor Valerie Lund. @ENT_UK

A super letter of congratulations - I think I saw my name on a list. Two very proud parents and one very happy daughter. I hope and expect her to have an equally rewarding career, but possibly not as a surgeon.

Quizzed me on tumours of the anterior epitympanic recess on FRCS revision course in 1994. In over 20 years as an otologist, yet to see one, but still remember how to classify them.

The great Harold Ellis is finally retiring aged 94. I doubt he ever took a formal teaching qualification but to me he was the best. I count myself lucky to have worked for him. Thoroughly decent, generous and kind @RCSnews @RCSEd @rcpsglasgow @ASiTofficial @RouleauxClub
