Very often, when a senator dies, the Senate provides surviving family with ~ $100k. I’m not sure how many of them need it given the avg wealth of US Senators. It pains me to think Congress does not do that when a Capitol Police officer or other staffer dies in the line of duty.

You can tell these people have never taken a meeting or call with constituents about rural post office closings or post office consolidation.

ā€œWe need someone perceived by the American people to be irresponsible, untrustworthy, partisan, ambitious, and thirsty for the limelight. Am I crazy, or is this not a job for the U. S. House of Representatives?ā€

🧵For all of my Congress nerds, the House Majority Leader's office has put out out Fun Facts about the 118th Congress. Let's begin:

My hot take: Democrats shouldn’t read tonight’s VA Guv race as a reflection of what they have or have not done in Congress this year. They should read it as an anticipation of what they’ll be up against next year: a strategy of divisive racial politics.

If Capitol Police is having trouble filling open positions because they can't find candidates without white supremacist connections, we're in bigger trouble than expected.

Fools Summer today in DC, which is different from Fools Spring. Fools Spring tricks you into thinking Spring has arrived when it has not. Fools Summer tricks you into thinking 90 degree days during actual Summer will be this pleasant. They won’t.

All of this fear speculation about a ā€œparalyzedā€ Congress not being able to respond to the Israel situation. What do people think Congress is needed to do immediately in this situation? Pass a sense of the Congress resolution condemning Hamas?

Congress gets trashed all the time, sometimes it's earned. But the stories that rarely get told are how thousands of Americans are helped each year in navigating the bureaucracy to solve their problems. Lawmaking looks glamorous, constituent service makes a difference.

One thing I hope people takeaway from the @ringwiss reveal is that despite how often congressional procedure is described as arcane, anyone can learn this stuff. 🧵
