Congrats @AndyBurnhamGM and @andy4makerfield team on a brilliant result. Makerfield is a top 20 target for Reform - on paper, it was one of the most friendly seats in the country for them. If Nigel Farage can’t win Makerfield how can he say Reform can win a General Election?

When I was kid, if you worked in the public sector you’d never be a millionaire, but you had decent pay, a pension, sick pay & career progression. Outsourcing sacrificed decent jobs for shareholder dividends. It’s time to right that wrong & this a good step towards that.

It might surprise you to learn that you can work in a government building where all of your colleagues are civil servants – and be entrusted with keeping the nation safe – but be employed on an insecure private sector contract The outsourcing injustice at the heart of government

Security staff, cleaners and caterers are as much a part of the team as anyone else in government. They should be properly treated as such.

Not out of the woods yet but inflation steady today - beating expectations. We’ve been pulling out the stops to mitigate the economic impact of the war in Iran by working with industry to closely monitor stock levels and bolster our supply chains. Important to remember that

Had a wonderful meeting with PM Keir Starmer in Evian. The last year has been outstanding as far as India-UK relations are concerned. The trade deal has opened many avenues of economic cooperation. Today’s talks focused on how to add even more momentum to India-UK ties.

I'm pleased the BMA has called off strikes next week. That’s good news for patients, all NHS staff, and the taxpayer.

💬 @jamesmurray_ldn welcomes the BMA's decision to call off the resident doctor strikes which were due to take place next week. Full statement 👇
Part one of two of a quote from Secretary of State for Health and Social Care James Murray.

"It is a positive and welcome development – especially for patients – that the BMA have called off these unnecessary strikes.

"I am pleased that the BMA have understood they have a Secretary of State and a government that wants to work with them for the benefit of both resident doctors and patients.

"After a 28.9% pay rise for resident doctors over the last three years, the country simply cannot afford to increase the pay offer for this year. I am pleased that the BMA have recognised this, which has allowed us to make progress in other areas, such as training places and working conditions.

"I want to thank staff across the NHS for the way they have consistently risen to the challenges posed by repeated strike action. I hope they will be encouraged by today’s step forward, as will patients and the taxpayer, who can be reassured that all the necessary funding is coming from existing budgets."
Part two of two of a quote from Secretary of State for Health and Social Care James Murray.

"The government will now work intensively with the BMA over the coming days to finalise the details of the deal before it is put to their members. In line with the terms agreed today, the BMA Resident Doctors Committee, whose leadership have worked constructively and intensively with my officials to agree this deal, must now recommend this deal to their members.

"This is a good deal for resident doctors. It boosts their pay, improves their career prospects, and improves their working lives. It represents the chance to draw a line under the damaging disputes of recent years and to usher in a new period of industrial peace, where the government and resident doctors work together to make the NHS fit for the future."
