I’ve spent 18 years building and scaling products on the @AppStore (and helping others do the same), but today I’m launching something deeply personal. Six years ago, I started a paper journal with my young kids. Here’s how (and why) that paper journal became @GritMethodApp 🧵

The entire home screen of the original iPhone (320x480 pixels) is about the size of 2 icons on the iPhone X home screen (1125x2436 pixels).

🤦🏼‍♂️ @GE_Appliances won’t let me use convection roast on my new oven without connecting the oven to wifi. After a string of profanities I reluctantly downloaded the app and sat on the kitchen floor 10+ minutes trying to get it connected… unsuccessfully. The app is complete garbage

As a happily married 46 year old man who has a very public facing role for work, I’ll say… this is quite tricky. It genuinely feels sexist to not engage with an 18-year-old woman when I have engaged with 18-year-old (and maybe younger) male app founders. But to be honest, I
why are you, as a 35 year old man, engaging with 18 year old girls who just moved to SF and want to meet up for fall activities?

It’s been made fun of for years, but Apple did this very specifically to prevent people from using the mouse plugged in 24/7, which is a much worse experience. Sometimes forcing users to endure momentary sub-optimal experiences is worth it to keep them on the optimal experience
Hot take: this charging port location is fine.

My 9-year-old son is head over heels for the Vision Pro. He used it for an hour or two this morning and I kept hearing him mutter “I love this thing!”

My theory: Apple wanted iOS 26 to have a wow factor at WWDC so they generated all the images and videos with maximum transparency to really sell the glass effect. They’d already dialed it back in internal betas for usability — beta 2 has been in testing internally for weeks.
Apple cranked up the blur and contrast in iOS 26 Beta 2. Right image is the new one. Better balance?

Wait… wait… wait… has the iOS 16 Lock Screen responded to tilting the iPhone this whole time?! I just noticed 🤯😍

Over dinner I told my wife one of my tweets ended up in a court case against Apple. Her first reaction, without even knowing what it said: “Is Apple going to retaliate?!” So yeah, for almost 13 years of making a living on the App Store, we‘ve lived in fear of Apple.

My middle son figured out a clever Photos app prank. He found a goofy picture of his younger brother on my wife’s iPhone and adjusted the date to the year 4000. Now that photo will forever show up as the most recent photo taken. 🤣

If I find out that an 18 year old is working on apps, I shouldn’t chat them up and offer to help? I’ve been helping my friend’s 17 year old son, my own 16 year old son, and talked to plenty of other gen Z app industry folks. The creepy old man stigma (which to be fair, was
