Pretty strong evidence of negative mental health effects of doing a PhD. Recent working paper by @EvaRanehill, @annahsandberg, Sanna Bergvall, and Clara Fernström. Paper link: swopec.hhs.se/lunewp/abs/lun…

Are you into language? Perception? Intrigued by placebos? Here's a review that brings it all together. Really happy how this turned out! tldr: Language really can change what you perceive.

Some people have a lot of inner speech; others none (e.g., psyarxiv.com/yfb3h/ ). Am curious what folks think might be some cognitive differeces -- both in lang processing and nonling cognition -- b/w people who have lots of inner speech vs. little to none.

@FelixHill84 @spiantado @IbanDlank @tmalsburg @AndrewLampinen As a cognitive scientist (trained in the connectionism), I find large language models (LLMs) not just scientifically relevant, but critical to the future of cog sci. Why? Here are two reasons + some "but what about.?"

Synesthesia is an example of a *masked difference*: Most don't experience it and don't realize it exists; some experience it and don't realize others don't. What's your favorite example of other masked differences?

Because English doesn't grammatically distinguish between different forms of possession: My arm, my car, my brother, my country, my friend -- yes they're different forms of possession, but we use "my" with all. There are enough problems in the world; no need to create more.

#CogSci twitter: What are some key concepts, expressible in 1-2 words that you think are critical to cogsci discourse? (i.e. if you're not familiar with it, you'll be very confused). I'll start: "representation"
