    A bit of personal news… the Minister has appointed me as Chair of @fiscalcouncil in an acting capacity while the Govt undertake a full appointment procedure. It’s an honour to do it, especially at such an interesting & important time for fiscal policy. gov.ie/en/press-relea….

    RIP to my colleague, fellow Irishman, and office neighbour Peter Neary. A kind giant of economics. Always had huge passion & enthusiasm for ideas and intellectual rigour. You will be sorely missed by so many. Thoughts are with his family. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a h'anam dílis.

    On Friday the world became a darker place for my family - my dad called to say that my eldest sister had died suddenly and unexpectedly. She was so smart, so young, had such a passion for life, her family and friends, her work, and for travel. RIP Ciara. We love you xxx (1/N)

    Was very excited to join @EvanHD in the studio for @BBCRadio4 The Bottom Line on inflation (airs tonight). For last 20 years, Evan has consistently been one of the important media people bridging economics to a wider audience. My grin shows my excitement. Thanks for having me.

    Shameless self-promotion: apparently I’m deficit-friendly. I would be more nuanced - not all deficits are bad, some deficits are good and even some surpluses can be bad. But I’ve been told that that is less catchy. There’s a reason I’m not a journalist. m.independent.ie/business/irish…

    My sister, who tragically passed away very recently, features in a documentary tonight on Irish tv discussing her work. It will be tough to watch for me but I will do so with enormous pride for someone who operated at the top of her chosen field. @EcoEye @RTEOne

    How much radiation is dangerous? Tonight's @EcoEye (@RTEOne 7pm) explores radiation exposure in Ireland. The late Dr Ciara McMahon features in this episode. Ciara had a long and distinguished career in radiological and environmental protection. She is sorely missed.

    Macro for 1st year undergrads @OxfordEconDept is back live - just delivered my 1st in-person lecture since Feb 2020. Loved it! Online has its role but in person rules! Here is the glimpse of the issues that students thought were key issues for macroeconomics at the moment:

    My favourite student email so far this term: "I am really enjoying your lectures so far! I find this surprising (and a bit confusing) because I haven’t really enjoyed macroeconomics as a subject in the past." I obviously apologised for potentially making macro interesting.
