Deeply humbled by the confidence given by the nominating committee, @EACTS council and members to take on the role of secretary general. Excellent to continue learning from @rafasadaba during this transition year (and dare I say relieved 😉?) #EACTS2021

The election of new Officers & Councillors just took place at the EACTS General Assembly. Voting was unanimous. We're pleased to announce that @pomyers has been selected as the new Secretary General Elect. @rafasadaba continues as Secretary General until October 2022 (🧵1/4)

Last week, 37 yo aortic dissection walked in to the ED, collapses from tamponnade. Awake cannulation for bypass, full repair. Now out of the hospital & great. When I learned his daughter had just blown the candle on her 1st birthday cake 10 days before:

When was the last time you had a healthcare victory deserving of the classic "Dr Benton move" from ER?

After almost 1 year, the wait is over - the #EXCEL investigators finally release the UDMI data in @NEJM nejm.org/doi/full/10.10… 🧵 in a nutshell: - the EXCEL investigators had the UDMI data, although they said they didn’t - It shows higher MI risk for PCI

We have lost a dear friend, mentor and outstanding member of our surgical community. Domenico Pagano @dompagano passed away yesterday. All my thoughts go out to his partner Rossana and his two daughters.

But are you qualified/capable of working as an ICU nurse? Great initiative, but I could NEVER do 10% of what our great ICU nurses do!

After listening to/reading @drjohnm, @VPrasadMDMPH and others, my first impression on reading this @nytimes opinion: why don't we have RCTs, comparing masking - no-maksing - school closure and look at hard outcomes? This would provide helpful data...

After a few days to go over the #EXCEL 5 year results published in @NEJM and thinking hard about @DrMoritzWvB tweet on IC and cardiac surgery seeing things quite differently, here are a few thoughts. Glad to hear your thoughts @tssmn @ctsnetorg @EACTS 1/30

Leaving sunny San Diego, after an outstanding #STS2023 meeting. Great to see everyone in person again, and an amazing program. Looking forward to serving @STS_CTsurgery as international director, a privilege to learn and advance cardio-thoracic surgery world-wide!

Typical patient included in REVIVED-BCIS, 80 yo, turned down for surgery, undergoes protected CTO-PCI. What was the benefit and rationale? Please show me the evidence to support this practice @VictorDayan1 @FaisalBakaeen @rafasadaba @DavidLBrownMD @mmamas1973 @drjohnm

80 YO M new onset HFrEF (30%), diagnostic cath shows 100% CTO of RCA & LCx, last remaining conduit is LAD. Surgical turn down, shared decision made for high risk PCI - how would you approach this? CTO first or LAD first? Protected PCI? Plaque modification? Will share what I did
