In the U.S. they would have been hit with a lawsuit by the close of business day. Rudeness is not a defense for blocking one’s ability to travel. Rights are not granted based on level of gratitude or manners. It’s not a reward. Direct and firm will often be perceived as rude

When I invite people over I want to host. That means no bringing a dish and no cleaning. The women always offer to help but my answer is always a firm no thank you and I mean it. You’re a guest. When everyone leaves I clean.
