Hi, if you are following me because you think I am the dipshit who writes books about the People's Republic of China, I am not that dipshit.

I am a completely different dipshit.

When I started this instance, I envisioned it as a social network :flan_guns:.

Like the hallway track at :flan_book:. Or when we wander the streets at :flan_flaneur:. And like when we hit up the bars at :flan_beer:.

Chat about anything! Everything! Code is cool, but so is anything in your noggin. Good thing so many of you are already doing that :flan_pats:.

/me puts Admin Hat on.

Hi everybody!

The bsd.network instance has a Code Of Conduct, viewable at bsd.network/terms or via the "Terms and Conditions" link that is sprinkled around a few places.

The TL;DR is "be cool unto others". However, since society at large has demonstrated they can't be cool, we had to write out a bunch of things.

Your local Admins are @aag, @pamela, and @phessler.

Hey, users of bsd.network. Be cool unto people, and people will be cool unto you. Interacting with people is a *privilege* not a *right*. This is a private place owned by me and @aag and we want it to be friendly and nice.

We don't want to have to swing the admin-hammer to correct your behaviour!

But we will.

I have created a account for donations to me. I intend to use any monies to cover my open-source work, and for hosting this instance. liberapay.com/phessler/

Since donations through the service are anonymous, I don't know if, or how much, people have donated.

bsd.network is now live!

I have pre-reserved the names for the projects, and a few others. If you would like to take control of those, please email the admins so we can ensure the proper people have them.

JUSTICE FOR
THE
DOLLS

We stand in solidarity with The Dolls of Berlin and queer community centre Casa Kuà.

(⬇️ donation links at the bottom of the post)

The Dolls is a transfem collective in Berlin that does education on (DIY) HRT, these are essential resources for trans people in need of healthcare.

Last Sunday, Casa Kuà, the place where The Dolls held their event, got raided by the police. Everyone present got ID'ed, and detained. HRT and supplies were confiscated. Estrogen is not a controlled substance in Germany. The Dolls were doing nothing illegal, yet they were met with state violence.

The events of Stonewall and the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft are repeated right before our eyes.

Healthcare is a right, but all too often people do not have access to it. For trans healthcare this is unfortunately commonplace. Some are required to find healthcare outside of systems that are inaccessible and gatekeeping.

This will happen, period. You cannot stop people from seeking and getting life-saving gender-affirming healthcare. But there is a difference in whether this happens with the guidance of a loving and caring community or not.

HRT education, injection safety and trans communtiy are crucial and life saving. The Dolls are here to stay!

The Dolls and Casa Kuà have a fundraiser. And they could really use the money, also for potential legal expenses. So if you can spare an euro or two, or more, that'd be really nice and cool.

We stand with The Dolls. Community is not illegal. Healthcare is not a crime.
International solidarity!

aperiodic reminder that in 1990 Spike Lee got together with a bunch of people to do a documentary for PBS about modern a capella singing groups called “Spike & Co.: Do It a Cappella”, it’s available for bootlegging on youtube, and it absolutely slaps. (It was also released as a compilation CD if you’d like to seek that out, but if you dig the music in the doc, you should seek out the catalogs of the performers for that deeper dive you’ll also enjoy)

This is an expansion on the theme of that old post about "someone should remind the rich that before unions the way workers addressed grievances was by dragging the factory owner out of his house and beating him to death in front of his family, because I feel like they forgot".

If you are also a casualty in the newest battle of firefox's war on their users:

You can disable the new awful rounded tabs by going into about:config, searching for nova, Change browser.nova.enable to false.

Also, you'll need to re-enable your old theme. Firefox "helpfully" disabled my dark theme.

queues were very short, so we're done.

happy tooting!
