An Introduction

I want to make medical imaging easier to explore without losing the information that gives an image its meaning. A three-dimensional model can help someone understand a structure. Knowing where that model came from, what defined its boundaries, and what has actually been checked makes it more useful.

That is the problem behind DICOM3D, an open-source research and educational project I've been building. It's already publicly available; this article is a more personal introduction to the project and why I'm working on it.

The interest is technical

Hi, Community!

In Part 1 of this series, we built a production using the HL7 Messaging type and created a BPL Business Process that enriches an incoming HL7 message with a %DynamicObject. In Part 2, we demonstrated seven real-world property-access pitfalls that cause silent failures when working with dynamic objects.

This article closes the series with something different. Instead of a structured HL7 message, we deal with raw stream content %Stream.Object that arrives unparsed. The challenge here is that Business Rules work best against simple values.

I’m excited to share ascot, an open-source static analysis tool for InterSystems ObjectScript.

One of ascot’s core capabilities is type checking with a deep understanding of control flow, including idiomatic patterns involving $order, $data, for loops, conditionals, and postconditionals.

In addition, ascot helps you navigate codebases by maintaining indices of ObjectScript definitions and references.

Designed for humans as well as AI agents, ascot exposes its functionality through CLI, MCP, and LSP. Integration with the InterSystems Language Server VS Code extension is coming shortly.

IPM version 0.10.10 was released on October 14th, 2026. You can check it out on the GitHub page or through the Community Registry. For those of you running agentic workflows, the new sync command will be particular interest. Read more about it on the wiki.

Full Changelog:

Added

  • #1117: Add sync command for incremental loading of changed files in dev-mode modules. Detects modified files since last sync using SHA-1 hash and recompiles only what is stale. Supports -delete for processing removed files and -test for running changed test-phase unit tests.

IRIS 2026.2 ships a documented REST API for administration, the SysAdmin API under /api/admin, with an OpenAPI specification of its 273 operations. For the Build Your Own Management Portal contest I built Aperture, a management portal on top of that API, and I generated its TypeScript types from the published specification. The compiler checks every request the portal sends and every field it reads.

That makes the specification load-bearing. Where it and the server differ, the portal is wrong in a way no compiler can see: a column stays empty, a service shows as disabled, a list stops early.

Have you ever been editing files in VS Code, but needed to check a global value or run a few ObjectScript commands? Now you can, with no setup required! If you have vscode-objectscript extension version 2.10.0 or later and are connected to InterSystems IRIS 2023.2 or later, you can now open a terminal connection to your server, regardless of where it's located.

Question Stefan Katzensteiner · Oct 16

Hello everyone,

I'm learning InterSystems IRIS and ObjectScript to prepare for a role that works with IRIS. My setup is IRIS Community Edition 2026.1 in Docker on Windows 11, with VS Code and the InterSystems ObjectScript Extension Pack. That works well, and VS Code will be my main IDE.

The role I am preparing for will use Studio, so I'd also like to get familiar with it. I understand that Studio is deprecated and that the 2024.1 standalone kit is only offered on the WRC distribution page.

You may have seen the recent announcement of InterSystems Supply Chain Orchestrator™ Community Edition (SCO CE)—like IRIS Community Edition, this release will allow developers to try out the SCO platform in a container on their local machine.

Setup

We've put together a quickstart repo to make this easy: SCO Community Edition Setup

All it contains is a docker compose file which pulls and runs both SCO community edition and webgateway community edition, and the necessary configuration files for the webgateway.

10:47 AM — Jose Garcia's creatinine test results arrive at the hospital FHIR server. 2.1 mg/dL — a 35% increase from last month.

What happens next?

  • Most systems: ❌ The result sits in a queue until a clinician reviews it manually — hours or days later.
  • This system: 👍 An AI agent evaluates the trend, consults clinical guidelines, and generates evidence-based recommendations — in seconds, automatically.

No chatbot. No manual prompts. No black-box reasoning.

A connection test can tell you that a server responded. A schema can tell you that a column is named Code. Neither tells you, by itself, what that code represents or whether it belongs in a particular target field.

That distinction is where reliable integration design begins. Before deciding which source asset maps to which target, or which components should form a pipeline, we need to understand the interfaces—not just their shapes, but what those shapes mean in context.

This article explains how DataPipelineDemo approaches that problem on InterSystems IRIS for Health.

TL;DR / Quick Answer

This article examines ways to place an InterSystems IRIS application under true version control and automatically deploy it from GitHub to IRIS servers running on AWS EC2, bypassing Open Exchange dependencies for a fully custom design.  The framework has two halves: a server-side source control class that commits every save to Git, and a GitHub Actions pipeline that pushes approved commits to a target namespace via the Atelier REST API. The hard parts are not the automation itself, but rather running Git as the IRIS service account and rolling back when a compilation fails.

As many of you have already realized, Chrome plans to remove XSLT support starting with version 158, scheduled for November 17, 2026. Both the XSLTProcessor JavaScript API and the processing instruction are being removed.

Many InterSystems products use some extent of in-browser XSLT processing, so this issue will affect us all, and we will be offering official communication on our mitigation plans soon. But in the meantime I wanted to share information on how you can see if this will impact your own applications. You don't have to wait five weeks to find out what breaks.
