The 2026 themed premieres vidshow theme is Unfinished Business!

Send us your vids* for sources that left you hanging in some way. Examples include:
  • Shows that were cancelled before their time
  • Movie endings that felt rushed
  • Books that didn’t get their anticipated sequel.

Vids do not have to be about the Unfinished aspect of the source, but we do encourage vidders to consider that in their vids where possible! We also enjoy unexpected interpretations of the prompt – if you’re unsure, please do get in touch with a member of concom or email us at vidukon@gmail.com.

*Please only send us at most one (1) vid for this show! The vid must be a premiere and will be shown in a dedicated vidshow at VidUKon. The submission deadline for this show is Sunday 19 April at 23:59 British Summer Time (UTC+1).

Amazon seems to have fixed the typos in the summary and sample of Jeannie Lin's Love, Death & Lanterns! Unfortunately they seem to have either have not done so in the ebook itself, or my copy is glitched (redownloading, clearing caches, and even deleting and rebuying it still gives me a copy with one of the main characters' names misspelled).

I have a version of it sans-typos from when it was one of the HEA Collective novellas, but this is annoying me.

Hello, hello

What's up party people?

If you've made it this far you've probably gathered that my name is Brandyn, and yeah I'm testing the waters here. I'm used to social media but never did anything live journal related and definitely don't entirely fit in with capital F Fandom spaces (Though all respect to the queer men, gals, and non-binary pals that spend their time in the trenches and help elevate certain fandoms, I like Star Trek and Gundam, I respect my history).

Mostly want to use this space to post a bit...vulnerably? Not necessarily in terms of my personal life or a place to vent necessarily (Though that's not off the table), but a space removed from the more performative persona I've put on for some other sites (Namely LeagueOfComicGeeks, cause big comic fan. Can find me under fatboyftw there). Not that I'm bitching, I love being known as a snarky but insightful asshole but it can take work to maintain. Alongside the inherent cynicism that having a space only dedicated to one niche hobby inherently brings since once you reach a certain threshold of something and learn how the sausage gets made you tend to get more bitter and critical. I love shouting into the ether about stuff but traditional social media has a way of getting me a bit heated sometimes, lmao.

So I'm going to use this space to be chill and just mainly talk about things I enjoy, comics and otherwise. A place I can go when I wanna post something that on another site I might have to defend or explain a bit more than I have the mental energy to do. As for what I would be posting about well, as we've established comics. Comics of all kinds, love the entire medium, not just superhero stuff. But also the occasional manga/anime, Kaiju Films, video games, and chats about fiction writing since it's not something I do nearly enough but something I love to do.

If any of that seems interesting then feel free to follow...subscribe...whatever it's called here.

(Yes if you check my profile this is just my first post copy and pasted, I realized I didn't have another introduction in me, I'm sowwy)

VidUKon 2026 is just over three months away! Here are the essential things to know so far about this year's convention:

First of all, it takes place 5-7 June 2026 in both Birmingham and online. As usual, Friday programming will begin – online and in person – in the afternoon while Thursday evening will include some online-only pre-con programming to kick things off.

If you’d like to attend, we're aiming to open registration by 7 March (barring any unforeseen tech issues) and we'll post more about that right here, so keep an eye out. The deadline to register for in-person attendance is 30 April. Online registration will remain open until pretty close to the con, but if you'd like addons (the conbook + extras) you'll need to register by 15 May.

If you’re joining us in person, you will probably also want to know about hotel room bookings and finding a roommate. We don't have a block on rooms this year, so attendees need to book directly on the hotel website through a travel booking site. We've been told Agoda may have competitive rates, so it's worth checking there too.

The call for programming has closed and we'll be contacting folks who sent through suggestions soon with further steps. The theme for this year's themed show is Unfinished Business. More details here.

Vid submission deadlines

We will have our three usual vidshows that VidUKon attendees can submit a vid to. You can submit up to one vid to each of these shows. The shows are Vidder’s Choice (a vid from your back catalogue), Premieres (a never-before-shown vid), and a show of vids fitting a specific theme. This year's themed vidshow will again be premieres-only. The deadline for all vidshows is 19 April. Please note that vid submissions are not yet open, we will post when they are.

With more updates to come, make sure to keep an eye on our social media – you'll always find the latest updates here on Dreamwidth, plus you can keep tabs on us via Tumblr and Bluesky.

Those dates in chronological order:

7 March – registration opens

19 April – deadline to submit to Vidder’s Choice, Premieres and the themed submissions show

30 April – deadline to register for in-person attendance

15 May – deadline to register for online attendance + addons (conbook, etc)

5-7 June – VidUKon \o/

We hope to see you at this year’s con!

I can and will shut any interaction down if it ventures into ship discourse. If you have trouble discerning between real human beings and fictional characters, we will not get along. If you are uncomfortable with such content as incest, pseudo-incest, toxic relationships, yanderes, omegaverse, teratophilia, noncon/dubcon, then it might be best for you not to subscribe/interact for your own peace. I don't care what people do or don't ship, just don't make it my problem.

The good news is The Unseen definitely has enough shippy footage for me to make a femslashy fanvid! The bad news is now I need a song (and nothing's quite clicking at the moment).

Summary: "Miss Gallagher," he says, no nonsense, "a moment if you please."

She blinks at him, the corners of her smile turning down for a heartbeat before she nods and closes her locker and walks over, following him into the classroom. "Yes?"

The lack of a sir, or his name, on the end of that yes rubs him the wrong way, and he knows that's why she doesn't say it -- she's so fucking calculating sometimes, he hates it -- but it also reminds him of all the other ways she's been frustrating him since coming back from winter break. The shine of her lip gloss and the smell of her perfume and the height of her hemline. All the looks she's given him, and the way she shifts in her seat when he's talking, and the fucking hearts on her o's.

We got out of town this weekend for a visit to my in-laws. It was a good weekend overall. Husband got to spend time with his dad and we all made it through his mom's idiosyncrasies. We watched Olympics together, and I worked on editing, and when we got home a lot of snow had melted. I finished reading Red Rising, too, which was good. I wasn't super blown away by it, but I liked it. On audio I'm listening to The Impossible Fortune, the 5th Thursday Murder Club book, and enjoying that.

1) Apparently I never mentioned here that my partner and I went to see The Harlem Globetrotters last month. He said he'd always wanted to see them. It turned out to be different from what we expected. Read more... )

2) I also tend to work on a lot of jigsaw puzzles in December and January. It's nice to sit by the sunny window and watch TV in the background while working on them. I've now put away the jigsaw board and sold off the puzzles, but Ahsoka and Grogu were a favorite Read more... )

3) I was listening to the Mutant Enemy Writer's Room Reunion recorded on March 17, 2015. Over 10 years ago now, but at the time it was already a decade on from the ending of all the Mutant Enemy shows. It was a really interesting listen, in terms of how those shows were written vs. the writers' experiences on other shows (especially broadcast network shows). But it also amazed me how, while rewrites were apparently rare, it was also not at all unusual that scripts were unfinished even as episodes were being filmed. Read more... )

4) In recent months I've been listening to a radio show from the 50s and 60s that does a variety of non-rock/pop tunes, as opposed to stuff like mambos, sambas, novelty songs, and other stuff that doesn't tend to make oldies' playlists. Sometimes they have TV theme songs in there too. Not sure I'd heard the Route 66 theme before, but the version I was listening to sounded like The Simpsons theme in that the main repeated phrase was similar. Made me eyebrow raise a little since it's one of the most profitable show themes ever written.

5) The recent Fansplaining article The Success of Heated Rivalry Should Not Be a Surprise contains other surprises. For one, the author is bewildered by most articles on the show covering (for the 1 millionth time) the "women interested in gay sex" aspect, and then also why there are so many more connections to Asian BL fandoms rather than more close-to-home slash fandoms including RPF fandoms.
