@thfr @solene

It would be great to see our games run on OpenBSD, but - as of yet - there are no BSD users on our team. If anyone's interested in looking into that to make it happen, you're more than welcome to come aboard.

Happy #PointNClickFriday!

Let's have some banana and slip on a banana peel into the short kobold adventure Gurk in Trouble - A Yip Quest Story.

You must defeat your evil wizard Master who wants to make every banana in the world disappear forever.

@solene What's your game of the year 2025?.... In my case it was probably (again) Balatro which I played more than any other game. At least it runs on OpenBSD

It's been a long time since I've seen a new game based on , but here is a nice one:

bootdiskrevolution.itch.io/spe

... and it's free! On , you can use to launch it...

@hukadan Just noticed in the stats chart only goes to 2024, but the summary stats in the repo include some entries for 2025 already...

By the way I also removed stats/summary-stats.json because of the repo size growth. stats/summary-stats-formatted.json still exists and won't go away.

Heads up gamers and enthusiasts: I removed openbsd-games.json from the OpenBSD-Games-Database.

github.com/playonbsd/OpenBSD-G

The reason is that with no linebreaks, commits end up growing the repo massively.

There is still openbsd-games-formatted.json which has the same content, but formatted with the line breaks which makes commits a lot smaller in size.

With py-steam updated, use of steamctl to get your Steam games on should be fixed again. So go ahead and !

Good news for all #OpenBSD users: #Freeciv21 is now available as games/freeciv21 in the OpenBSD ports tree.

Kudos to @thfr for creating and maintaining the port.

US politics

I think chances are high that we are witnesses to the slow rolling start of THE major geopolitical catastrophe of the 21st century

tech, US politics

It's 2025 and I'm amazed that OpenBSD is on track to outliving U.S. democracy.

100.000 took to the streets in Berlin on saturday to stand up to Fascism.

This is the direct answer to the attempt to normalise Far Right forces in Germany and all across Europe.

Heads up for -current users running chromium, the ENABLE_WASM behaviour changed.

WebAssembly is now enabled by default, ENABLE_WASM=0 can be set to restore the previous default (since 2019), which disabled it.

Unfortunately websites are increasing using WASM (or detecting its presence), for various security checks. Additionally, it is often required for audio/video conferencing, such as Zoom.

I'm increasingly convinced that the Musk/Ramaswamy tech-bromance agenda of massive cuts will usher in the next stage of the Gibsonian "high tech, low life" cyberpunk dystopia.

re: politics, long

The remaining democracies are in deep trouble unless they can find a figure to rally behind that will take up the fight against the global fascists and hold all those criminals that usurped power and institutions for their corrupt and criminal enterprises to account. It's clear that the current system of U.N., EU, international court of justice etc. is not equipped for the task and needs urgent reform, lest this be the opening chapter of new dark ages, with the added "pleasure" of nuclear blackmail likely becoming the norm as the 3 biggest nuclear powers are run by unaccountable dictators now.

politics, long

Let's not mince words - this is the fascist takeover of the United States. The playbook traces back to the 1920's to 1930's, with minimal variation. One thing they learned is to call their opponents fascists and similar terms that are way more applicable to themselves... this is part of a broader re-writing of history and word meanings (hello, 1984).

It's clear that with the election putting the convicted criminal above the rule of law, the latter is now a thing of the past. It's only a matter of time to see the courts gradually turn into instruments of the oligarchy and the ruler.

They will go after the convenient scape goats first (currently "illegal immigrants"), maybe at the same time as their political enemies (anyone who tried to hold their past and present criminal behavior to account). But others will follow, inevitably - anyone who doesn't toe the party line. Hard to think of anything that would have been considered more un-American just 10-20 years ago then this, but here we are...

There will be murders, lynch mobs, large scale human suffering probably in concentration camps for anyone not fitting the racial and ideological "ingroup". Elections in this country, if they even take place, will never be the same.

I never would have thought that the oldest democracy of the modern world would subvert itself within 10 years of my moving there. But the situation is clear - the ruling majority empowered by the electorate is the departure from truth, fairness, humanity, decency, to embrace the old-school fascist values of loyalty, patriotism, arrogance, misogyny.

The USA have long benefitted from skilled migrants filling the roles that the country doesn't want to or can't do themselves. This was because of liberal values, stable political circumstances, rule of law, respect for science and progress. All of this is over now; people with knowledge and a care for science, truth, civility who have international mobility are best served to look elsewhere now.

Nice! @thfr has sent a diff to tech@ adding Rumble/Force Feedback (aka Haptics) to the ujoy(4) gamepad driver, along with patch enabling it in SDL2. :flan_hacker:

Be sure to test it if you and have a compatible controller! :flan_thumbs: 🎮
