Came across this collection of links to articles discussing Ida. The posts discussing the way this was revealed to the media are particularly interesting (such as Carl Zimmer's). Sad that public understanding and interest in science is judged to be so low that it's assumed that we can only be interested in a fossil if it's deemed to be the next missing link, rather than being fascinating in its own right.

Speaking of public understanding of science, [personal profile] innerbrat has collected links on the Greens' policies on science. Two science writers/bloggers asked major UK political parties about their policies about nine areas of science. Their results can be found at Evidence Matters with additional write-up in the Guardian. In particular, the Greens are very much for alternative medicine and seem rather naive about a number of other things. Their health policy is also rather worrying.

Also found this guide to cloudwatching. As a small and unfortunately literal child I would lie on the ground and declare that I was cloudbathing, but sadly my efforts at cloudwatching have been hampered by not being able to remember the types of cloud.
