Our World Tuesday: Where bloggers share images of their world and tell us a little bit of the story about the place, and the events which take place overthere. For more interesting posts please click on the logo in the sidebar.
These photos were taken in Kinderdijk, near the windmills. The name Kinderdijk is Dutch for "Child's Dike". In 1421 during the Saint Elizabeth flood of 1421, the Grote Hollandse Waard flooded, but the Alblasserwaard polder remained dry. It is said that when the terrible storm had subsided, someone went on to the dike between these two areas, to see what could be saved. He saw in the distance a wooden cradle floating. There was no hope that anything would be alive in it, but when the cradle came nearer, someone saw that a cat was in the cradle trying to keep it in balance by jumping back and forth so that no water could come into it. When the cradle eventually came near the dike, someone took it out and saw that a baby was sleeping in it undisturbed and dry. In some of the stories the cat kept it balanced and afloat. This folktale and legend has been published as "The Cat and the Cradle" in English.

Sky Watch_ How strange...
Yesterday I watched the sky and took photos. First a photo of the sunset in the south west, then the opposite sky, which strangely enough was purple while the western sky was orange and yellowish coloured. It was not yet dark, but the sunset was perfect.
I liked it and hopefully you do as well.
Welcome to Skywatch Friday where people
from all over the world post great photographs of the sky in their part
of the world. Your Skywatch Friday hosts are Yogi, Sylvia, and Sandy.

Weekend Reflections, The Netherlands, Rotterdam
This model of the S.S.Rotterdam is placed in front of a mirror , which results in at least three reflections.
This ship is now a hotel . Once it has been the largest and most beautiful ship of the Netherlands.Wikipedia:"The fifth SS Rotterdam, known as "The Grande Dame", was launched by Queen Juliana in a gala ceremony on 13 September 1958, and completed the following summer. The Rotterdam was the last great Dutch "ship of state", employing the finest artisans from the Netherlands in her construction and fitting out process. Her career spanned forty-one years. She sailed from 1959 until her final retirement in September 2000.

Weekend Reflections, The Netherlands, Rotterdam
On Wednesday, 3rd July my friends and I went by ferry to Rotterdam to see the Wereldmuseum (Worldmuseum)
While waiting in Rotterdam for the ferry, to take us home again, I saw this painting on the glass walls of the roofed-in waiting area as if it were a part of the harbour behind it. I thought it might be a nice picture for W.R
If you double click on the photos you can see the details better.

I dedicate this post to my mum, whose birthday it was today. She would have been 106 today.
She was always caring for us and worrying about her three children. She was there in the concentration camp in Indonesia in WW II. She saw how thin and hungry we were. She herself was in a very bad condition, and yet she kept us alive and made clothes of old towels for us. I can tell you that she never complained about our bad living conditions and about the loss of all our possessions. Before the war we had a beautiful house where we lived in great luxury. Even our birthdays in the camp were not forgotten. We lost the rest of our "possessions" when we had to escape the people in Java who wanted to put us again in the camps we had just left. Thanks to the British we were rescued in time and taken to Singapore in November 1945. The British fed us and gave us the necessary things we needed. That's why I have always been an Anglophile! ;) During the war she didn't know what had happened to my dad. In January 1946 we saw him back after four years, which he spent at sea sailing from England to The States and to Australia and back again. My mum died in May 2000.

To understand someone's problem or point of view, turn it upside down, see it from a different angle.

Weekend Reflections, Norway.
Today the lawsuit ended against Anders Breivik, the man who killed so many children last year!
He doesn't like this song, because he is against the mixture of races and a multi- cultural society.
Let's all bear in mind that like the rainbow humanity is created in many colours.
En himmel full av stjerner
Blått hav så langt du ser
En jord der blomster gror
Kan du ønske mer ?
Sammen skal vi leve
hver søster og hver bror
Små barn av regnbuen
og en frodig jord.
A heaven full of stars
Blue seas as far as you can see
A world where flowers grow
Can you ask for anything more?
We shall live together
Every sister and every brother
Small children of the rainbow
And a blossoming world.

Sky Watch, Weekend Reflections
On my way to Australia I stayed in this hotel for a couple of hours. There was a great deal of reflection!
On my way back to the Netherlands I was stranded in Hong Kong Airport due to a typhoon.
We had to wait 28 hours before we could take off. We supported each other and became almost friends.
We tried to sleep on the floor or on the seats, but both options were uncomfortable.

Weekend Reflections

These three windows of Joseph, Benjamin and Ruben are reflected in the Reader's Table.
In every synagogue a Torah ark and a reader's table are present.
The Torah ark is a cabinet in which the Torah scrolls are kept.
The ark is reminiscent of the Ark of the Covenant which contained the tablets with Ten Commandments. This is the holiest spot in a synagogue, equivalent to the Holy of Holies. The ark is often closed with an ornate curtain, the parochet פרוכת, which hangs outside or inside the ark doors.
A large, raised, reader's platform called the bimah , where the Torah scroll is placed to be read, is a feature of all synagogues.
In the synagogue of the Hadassah Hospital near Jerusalem the reader's table is made of glass and not raised on a platform, so that the reader has to go down a few steps, reminding people of psalm:130."Out of the depths have I cried unto thee, o Lord".

Weekend Reflections, Sky Watch, Israel
We made a trip with our group to visit a birds sanctuary at Agamon Hula. It was raining. We were sitting in a kind of railway wagon drawn by a very big tractor. The benches were placed lengthwise. We saw a large number of cranes, which visit this area every year. The rain, the cranes and the water made a wonderful reflection.
