Fandomish updates

Because I've been damn quiet around here!

Hmm, let me see. Thanks to f-list recommendations I've been watching True Blood (loved it), Sons of Anarchy (OMG so much love, how did I never see that Charlie Hunnam can be that hot?) and Leverage. Much love for Leverage which is finally a show I can convince BB to watch with me.

SoA owns me right now, for the writing, the characters, the ambiguity, and because I'm a leeeetle bit shallow, for Charlie Hunnam with long hair and scruff in black leather being a badass. (Yes, that word sounds far too amusing if you listen to me saying it in my terribly English accent).

True Blood...interesting take on the vampire mythology, certainly. I've read a couple of the books as well, and surprised myself by actually preferring the TV show.

Leverage is rather obviously a rework of Hustle, but with more snark, more slash (dear lord is it wrong that I want to pair Eliot with everybody but especially Parker?) and more style than substance. It's engaging, it's fun, and it's got Christian Kane. Singing. And on horseback. And beating people up. What more can I ask for? Also Parker is the most adorable little psychopath ever. So in love with her.

Still going through watching BSG - not quite sure what to say on that except it succeeds in making me realise that perhaps I'm not very intelligent.

Been rewatching Spooks, too, and loving that all over again. Tom! Zoe! Danny! Adaaaaaam! and. Basically ALL of the characters. I'm just at the start of season 6 and slowly buying DVD box sets. Anyone else notice that Amazon's doing silly prices on those at the moment? Wonderful stuff.

Doctor Who Christmas special? Unadulterated fun. Made no sense at all, of course, but definitely fun.

Reading: the latest Merry Gentry novel which almost had a plot around the (bad) sex scenes. Black Butterfly, which I loved far more than Devil in Amber even though elderly Lucifer doesn't feel quite right. Plenty of comfort reading, so I've gone through Mary Stewart's Merlin books again to remind myself that I do love that legend even though the BBC adaptation was, frankly, terrible and yes I know I have f-listers who watch and love it but seriously. Not a single distinct character voice, no clear motivations except to serve the plot of the writer of the week, Uther's a bore, Arthur's an ass and Merlin's a moron. Still, better than Robin Hood was.

Graphic novel wise, fallen hard for The Boys and waiting for more of that, thank you Amazon. Following Authority: World's End with a certain amount of bafflement, and the Anita Blake comics which may well be better than the novels. Or at least the latest novels.

Listening to: The Delays, Mediaeval Baebes, Nickelback, Grieg, Steve Carlson no I don't compartmentalise my music.

Oh, and I went to a convention. Big surprise, huh?

Might be time for a new layout on here. Something suitably fannish.

Hope you're all having a peaceful and contented post-Christmas. Or whichever you celebrate.

Leverage! I've been meaning to check it out because of the wonderful casting they did, but I loved Hustle so much that I'm a little afraid to. I mean, there's a good reason I will never ever watch the American remake of Life On Mars. But whatever.

Haven't seen the Christmas Special yet, because I love David Morrissey with a deep, undying love, and am saving the episode for when I need something awesome in my life ;).

The Boys is indeed a great read so far. Roll on vol 4!

Got the first two Lucifer Box stories for Christmas in a double volume - will let you know what I think of them :)

What're the interesting takes on vampirism in True Blood then? I speak as one who's just got back from a family trip to the cinema to see Twilight...
