It's that time of year when the telly's all disrupted for the sports ball/racquet/stick (and double annoyance re: the golf as it will bugger up the roads down to mum's too). I haven't actually had regular TV since the ariel fell off the roof in 2020, firstly because The Plague, and onwards because streaming is working perfectly well for me, and because I'm in a big old building it would cost about £250 to fix, but it means things are on the wrong days or not at all and nothing new will start for months. Luckily my current workplace still has some non-sports chat going on (and those that tend to have no other chat were also the people being arseholes about the Swifties) - previous places have been very.... focussed - but holy SHIT is the UK news very England centric (no, it is bloody unlikely to "come home", England tend to be terrible winners, media-wise and all the harking back gets intensely tedious). My fandoms have never disrupted anything to that extent (except when Adam caused a volcanic eruption and the icepocalyse notwithstanding).

Acutally, talking of Adam there was a thing on ITV this evening Adam Lambert: Out, Loud & Proud, which looked like it might be good.

We're also in the stage of the run up to the general election where I could wallpaper my entire home with political leaflets. Does anyone actually read them any more? They're usually shiny, and not great for recycling. Still 2 weeks to go.

ANYWAY. I have a colony of sparrows out the front, and they quite often fledge onto the windowsill of my office (previously the spare room...), and because they've obviously heard my voice through their eggshells they're really not nervous of me at all - terrified of my phone, when I try to get a photo, but not at all of me. There's one in particular this year who seems to enjoy the noise bouncing back at it off the glass and it sings away at me, including making noise back at me when I talk to it. It's still a bit fluffy and messy, and I shall miss it when it goes off.

We've had ONE campaign leaflet from Labour and nothing from anyone else, and no doorstoppers at all. I suspect our excellent constituency MP has been told to focus campaigning on the marginal seat in the north of the city and not the "safe" one in the south, but if they take us for granted for another election we're going to be a lot less safe, the Lib Dems held this place for decades before our current MP came along.

Oh ugh. And they're all so negative, all about how the other parties are awful and ineffective, and nothing about what they can do to actually improve things.

Over the last few months, I've cautiously started feeding the birds in my garden, culminating in buying a six-foot feeder. The reason for my caution is that no creature ever touched the feeders in my old place, so I was pleased to find they discovered it almost straight away.

To help them, I initially placed a perch under the feeder, but I found it disproportionately helped bigger rather than smaller birds, so that's now away. I've reached the stage where I'll soon be bankrupt from buying peanuts, as they still empty it every day. Indeed, there's a regular pigeon who doesn't fly off after eating like all the others.

Unfortunately, unlike yours, they still scarper when I go out there, but I hope to gain their trust one day.

Actually, now you mention it, I do have such a camera. If I can find a not-too-rainy day, I'll rig it up.

From what I remember back when I used to watch it Swedish telly is exactly the same in the summer - sport, sport, sport, and more sport. Also reruns of reruns. And Swedish news are very, very Stockholm-centric. If it doesn't happen in the capital it's not worth reporting about :-/

Political leaflets are the most boring and pointless things ever!

they've obviously heard my voice through their eggshells

Sounds like a plausible theory to me! Your sparrow fledglings sound adorable.

Your sparrow colony sound adorable!

I've only received one political leaflet, and that was from Labour. All I can think of is, the other parties know our ward is so strongly Labour that they're not bothering to even try to sway voters.

I saw an advert for the Adam show, I need to check it out.
