So, catching up with Snowflake after work-nonsense took my entire brain.
Challenge #7
In your own space, create a list of at least three things you'd love to receive, something you've wanted but were afraid to ask for - a wishlist of sorts.
This is a tough one every year (which is why it's there, we're allowed to ask for nice things!) and I know I don't have time right now to fulfill requests - so I've bookmarked the post to go around later and be a surprise!late!snowflake fairy
Challenge #8
In your own space, write a promo, manifesto or primer for a beloved character, relationship or fandom. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
There are DEFINITELY significantly better primers than I could ever write out there for all my bandom people, but I can always go a good manifesto.
SO. RPF in whatever its guise (ridiculous, very obviously AU not-real premise, through "canon" compliant) is still based on created, fictional characters - we don't know the real people, their motivations, their thoughts, their feelings, anything beyond the created character that is shared with us through interviews, social media, etc. etc. etc.. Some obviously come closer than others, but even with the most shared, documented human beings on earth, it's still a curated presentation. Even more so for fandoms that have been around a while and created more significant head-canon.
Also: fanfic is not for creators, actors or anyone named within it. Get a fucking grip.
Challenge #9
In your own space, create a fanwork. Don't think you have to limit yourself to "write some fic" or "create some icons," though please do if you like that. But also consider art, graphics, podfics, musical scores, meta, fiber arts, videos, recipes, or whatever other combination of the words "fan" and "work" strikes your fancy.
My creative is tired, so I'm putting this one on hold for now. Maybe I'll hit lucky from challenge 7 :).

- Plot bunnies/Prompts
- for MCR/FOB flavoured bandom, for preference, but I'd also take TLOU (TV Only) or any-fandom type things. My creative brain is a bit mashed after finishing my last story, and I've always done quite well with prompts in the past to get me started again
- HHGG Text Icons
- I need to replace my arsehole Gaiman one, and I'd like either Dark, No Light, Dark or Beware of the Leopard
- To know your current or all-time favourite book
- recency bias is fine here, but so are older books :)

Optional bait list: friends to lovers, denial of feelings, pet names

Optional bait list: cross-band, post awards ceremony
Prompt 4:
"Oh let me see your beauty when the witnesses are gone

Date: 2025-01-18 07:06 pm (UTC)For a writing prompt, I will choose my favorite line from it:
"Jimmy Zoole's whole life is capped." You'll have to read the book to get the context (HA!). But insert any character for Jimmy Zoole. (And I have extra copies that I keep just to give to people, so let me know if you want me to mail you one. :-) )
(Final parenthetical: Do not watch the movie with Steve Guttenberg. It ripped all the gay and all the heart out of the book).
Here is the GoodReads page with the blurb:

So you've had a rough time and need a recharge, while I learned hurt/comfort from Master Tolkien...
* Your favorite woobie has been folded, spindled, and mutilated emotionally. Someone offers a delicious edible to revive them. Describe this confection.
* After an adventure better left unmentioned, the heroes return home covered in muck. A nice hot bath is desperately needed.
* There was this bus. And a large puddle with ice floating in it. The hapless character is soaked in freezing water. A kindly bystander whisks them inside and wraps them in something amazingly soft, warm, and fuzzy. What is it?
* During a frenetic fight scene, someone the heroes don't particularly like intervenes and saves them from a catastrophic loss, then offers aid and comfort because ... why? And how to they respond?
* After bushwhacking through the wilderness, the heroes suddenly come across a clearing beside a creek where there is fresh water, logs to sit on, a stone firepit, and a rocky overhang offering shelter in case of inclement weather. Thoughtful campers have left a supply of dry firewood, a flint and steel, and a few other tools tucked under the overhang. Who finds the goodies?

recency bias is fine here, but so are older books :)
I have lately enjoyed The Incredible Story of Cooking, a graphic novel illustrating the history of how people invented cuisines. It's well worth a look if you enjoy food and/or history.

I haven't seen that. We're currently watching a documentary about soul food around the world, though.

Date: 2025-01-19 09:23 am (UTC)Right? Nothing cringes me more than those "gotcha" journalists who try to embarrass celebs by getting them to read fic about them, or the character they play. Ewwww, no! 🤮🤮

Date: 2025-01-19 08:54 pm (UTC)There are so many books I love, Dorothy Sayer's 'Gaudy Night', and I never grow tired of 'Winnie-the-Pooh' and 'The House at Pooh Corner'. Among science fiction my favourite writer is definitely C J Cherryh but she's written so that many that I love it's hard to single out one. Maybe 'Pride of Chanur' (here on Goodreads).
I will never understand why some people get so het up about RPF. Often the same people that happily watch biopics and docudramas!

Date: 2025-01-20 08:00 pm (UTC)Now and then a wrestler will namecheck AO3 or, like, joke about their characterization in fanfic, and part of me is charmed by the evidence that they might be one of us! one of us! - and some of them genuinely are: a couple have acknowledged writing fic when they were younger, a couple were/are active on tumblr and some were lj-ers, or are cosplayers even outside of their ring-gear, etc. - while the other part of me cringes in the same way as when people tweet fic at showrunners or read excepts at actors. Nooo! Stop it! Most of your audience will not get it, and at least some of them will tromp into fandom spaces to be loudly obnoxious about it! /o\
