I think I'm only just starting to get modes. All the resources online either describe them via having a different starting note or using 7-note solfรจge, and both of those are impossible for me to sing. If I'm not mistaken, this is right for 4-note solfรจge:

lydian: fa sol la fi sol la mi fa
ionian: fa sol la fa sol la mi fa
mixolydian: fa sol la fa sol la may fa
dorian: la mi fa sol la fi sol la
aeolian: la mi fa sol la fa sol la

and if you wanna get spicy

phrygian: la may fa sol la fa sol la
locrian: la may fa sol lay fa sol la

I do wish there were more resources on this since so many 4-shape songs are modal in the sung tradition.

The bibliography for my first class this semester is ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Hello Friends! Quaker Quest will be down for a system upgrade. My VPS provider writes: "This will happen on 2026-08-23 @ 08:00 UTC / 10:00 CEST." It should last about 30 minutes.

My other account @lxak will still be reachable during the downtime.

Mary Fell, the eight-year-old daughter of Margaret Fell, mother of Quakerism disliked her parish priest. She wrote to him:

Lampitt the plaiges of god shall fall upon thee, & the seuen viols shall bee powerd upon thee, & the milstone shall fall upon thee, & crush thee as dost under the lords feete how Can thou escape the damnation of hell, This did the lord give mee as I lay in bed, Mary fell.

Is trash talking* morally permissible? Let's do some empirical philosophy...

*Complaining about someone to a third party, not mischaracterizing any facts, but freely expressing your distaste/annoyance/whatever to that person.

> And now it is good for us all to go on and continue hand in hand in the unity and fellowship of this eternal Spirit, in humility and lowliness of mind, each esteeming others better than ourselves; and this is well-pleasing unto God.

Margaret Fell Fox's final epistle, 4th Mo. 1698
