    🧵1/ Interesting report on early retirement by @TheIFS . I believe 'the' biggest driver of this is housing wealth. Only 57% of those who own outright work in aged 55-65, compared to 83% of those who have a mortgage.

    83% of people with mortgages are still working aged 55–65, compared to 57% of those who own their houses outright. These gaps may be down to renters and mortgagors not having the financial security to retire early. [5/9]
    Chart shows economic activity of people aged 55–65 in 2021–22, by housing status. Title states: "55–65 year olds with mortgages are far more likely to still be in employment compared to homeowners and renters."
