Blading in the Morning
Everybody go through stuff / Life is a gift, love, blade it up.
Everybody go through stuff / Life is a gift, love, blade it up.
Wake up in the morning and I remind myself.
Life is still worth loving. Go for a ride by myself.
Ruby Cramer writes for the New Yorker:
This year, vaccination rates among kindergartners decreased across immunizations for measles, mumps, rubella, polio, diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis. New parents are also increasingly declining a Vitamin K injection for their infants. The shot has been standard for newborns since 1961. A so-called black-box warning associated with the shot mentions adverse reactions and has become a major topic among crunchy-parenting groups online. But the warning refers primarily to allergic reactions in adults; only one case of an allergic reaction has ever been recorded in a newborn. There is virtually no downside to the injection apart from the transient pain of the needle, and the upside is tremendous. Babies are born with low amounts of Vitamin K, which is required to form blood clots. Without the shot, an otherwise healthy newborn can bleed to death internally, usually in the brain.
I highly recommend reading the entire piece.
Emily Witt takes us through the horrific scene of Operation Metro Surge, a campaign of mass detention and deportation in Minneapolis. It’s a brutal read.
Carving on my longboard with a bit more speed. I can’t wait to return to snowboarding this winter.
I am too old to skateboard; therefore, I am just taking it easy. I spent about 30 minutes a day honing my snowboard carving skills. I don’t know if it will help with my snowboarding techniques, but it definitely improves my longboard riding. Here’s a short clip of yours truly carving in the night.
The kids will be heading back to school tomorrow. Here are some memories of our vacate at Wildwood. I can’t wait for the winter to come. We’re ready for you, El Niño.
Launched in March this year, Hovacritica is a passion project of mine that curates essays written about JAŸ-Z and his music. As a fan of his art, particularly his lyrics, I wanted to have a space where I can read long pieces without interruptions. I also wanted to read them in my choices of typefaces. For the main text, I chose Turnip, designed by David Jonathan Ross. For big headings, I selected Nickel Gothic, also designed by Ross. For small texts, I went with Sofia Pro, designed by Olivier Gourvat. Since the launch, I added a few more articles. I also updated his name JAŸ-Z to include the umlaut on the Y. Take a look!
