Skillz "2011 Rap Up"

Image

What a better way to kick off the new year with another legendary "Rap Up" from Skillz.

In usual fashion, Skillz gives us a round up of what happened during the year, from Occupying Wall Street, Lil Wayne’s jeggings, the Ray J and Fabolous beef, Justin Bieber, Beyonce's pregnancy, Amy Winehouse and Heavy D’s deaths and more.

You can purchase the track from itunes now.

End of the Year: 2011

Image

Another year over, another recap from yours truly! Keeping with last year's recap, I'll try and make this one short and sweet.

Image

Most of my time this year was taken up with touring with Yasmin, DJ-ing all over the UK, as well as the odd gig abroad (shouts to Snowbombing). From playing at Glastonbury, to V Festival, SW4, Wireless, Belsonic, Wakestock, supporting Mac Miller, and countless other shows, I've definitely had fun playing to a whole range of crowds, and meeting some excellent people along the way.

Image

As for club nights, I'd like to give a shout out to Shawn and Emily at Le Scratch and Supa Dupa Fly, Tim and Barry & Motive for the Just Jam and Overproof bookings, and to everyone else who's booked me to DJ this year.

Thanks to everyone who has been supporting the Triangulum releases too. Whilst it's been a slow start to the label this year (mainly due to tour commitments), 2012 will see more output from the likes of Teeza, SRC, Tanka, and more. Big up Fused Forces and DCult for supplying great music. Watch out for them too.

Image
I've been able to produce guest mixes for the likes of Annie Mac, Annie Nightingale, CJ Beatz, labels such as Universal and Warner, and artists such as Dream McLean. Watch out for him in 2012, trust me.

Also, massive shouts to Sian Anderson for inviting me on to her Rinse FM show for a guest mix.

Lastly, I'd like to thank everyone who's taken the time to visit my blog, download a mix, come to a show, follow me on Twitter or become a fan on Facebook. Whilst I can be a moody git online sometimes, your support is always welcomed and appreciated.

Thanks for all your support, and make sure you stick around in 2012.

Happy New Year. Big up.

P.S. RIP Heavy D, Steve Jobs, Joe Frazier, Amy Winehouse and Patrice O'Neal.

DJ Cable & DJ Hotpoint Present: "UK Garage 2011"

Image

It's been a while since DJ Hotpoint and I have collaborated on a mixtape, and since Garage music has recently made a strong return to UK dancefloors, we thought it'd be a great opportunity to fire up Serato and record a mix.

Having both grown up during the scene's peak (I'm from Essex; Hotpoint is from Croydon), we were there to appreciate UK Garage first time around; fast-forward to 2011, and the sound is still as fresh and exciting as it was back then.

The tracklisting below represents only a tiny selection of the ever-evolving scene. Whilst we wanted to dig deep into our digital record crates and pull out a whole bunch of great material from the likes of SBTRKT, Submerse, Burial, Sully, Falty DL, Whistla and more, we decided to go with a bunch of tunes that are not only accessible to the average clubber, but have also been staple tunes in both our sets.

DJ Cable - 2011 Valentines Mix

Image

So, here's a quick mix that I put together for this year's Valentines Day.

Last year, DJ Hotpoint & I brought you Heavy Petting - It was our definitive collection of Slow Jams. Rather than repeat the same formula, this time around I've selected a bunch of love-themed Dubstep & Grime tunes (yes, they do exist!), alongside a healthy dose of misogynistic Hip Hop & Booty Bass in the latter half of the mix, plus a cheeky bootleg, and some material that's forthcoming on Triangulum!

The result? A mish mash of everything from JME, to Wiley, Three 6 Mafia, Ludacris, Snoop Dogg, DJ Assault, Necro, Dizzee Rascal, Borgore, Ruckspin, Chromeo and more!
