Sarah Palin Endorsement Only Relevant for About a Week

Image
Sarah Palin has endorsed Richard Mourdock for Senate.  John McCain endorsed Lugar.

Neither of those endorsements are particularly surprising.  McCain endorsed his long-time friend.  Palin endorsed the Tea Party favorite.

Right now we're hearing a lot about the Palin endorsement.  So much so, in fact, that Mourdock, while thanking another group for their endorsement, went out of his way to again address the Palin endorsement.

Why?  Because Palin is incredibly popular among uber-conservatives.  And those are the people the Lugar and Mourdock are fighting for right now.  So as we get much closer to the May 8th Primary, I wouldn't be surprised if we continue to hear Mourdock tout the importance of the Palin endorsement.

One way or another, though, I bet that ends May 8th.  If Lugar wins, of course it ends along with Mourdock's campaign.  If Mourdock wins, though, as is looking more likely every day, I doubt he continues to brag much about the Palin endorsement.

Why?  Because the voters he's fighting for will change dramatically.  Today he's fighting for right-wingers and is proud to display his endorsement by someone right-wingers adore.

But starting May 9th, Mourdock will have the right-wingers' votes locked up.  If he wins the primary, the Republicans are going to vote for him in November.

So starting May 9th, Mourdock is fighting for the votes of independents and swing-voters.  And that crowd aligns themselves more with the Democrats when it comes to attitudes towards Sarah Palin.  Their feelings range from a great dislike toward her, to outright hating her.

So while you see Mourdock proudly wearing the Palin endorsement today, I wouldn't expect that trend to continue for more than another week.  Then it gets filed away as a campaign hindrance.

Morgan Freeman Plays the Race Card on Piers Morgan; Can We Please Stop Doing That?

Can we stop playing the race card?  Please?

I'm not saying that racism doesn't exist in America.  It absolutely does.  It is, however, much better than it was in my parents' and grandparents' generations.

Today there's a new thing fueling racism: claims of racism.  You see, many people today make claims that any opposition to any member of a minority on any topic must be fueled by racism.  I'm growing tired of it.

This phenomena is not new with the entrance of the Obama administration.  It is, though, amplified immensely by it.  So many people are out there making claims that any person who does not support Obama's agenda lack that support, obviously, because Obama is black. Give me a break.

Did everyone who disagreed with the agenda of every other president disagree because they can't stand white people?  Of course not.  People disagree with the agendas of political figures and political parties because they don't believe their ideas and programs work to better our nation in the best way possible.

Are there some people out there that hate Obama because he's a black president?  Sure there are.  But the vast, vast majority of people who don't like Obama don't like him because they do not care for the policies he has put in place, the policies he is advocating, the campaign promises he broke, the campaign promises he made, or any one of thousands of other political reasons.

Claiming racism at every turn makes people scared to publicly proceed on statements or ideas, for fear of being wrongly labeled a racist.  That causes people to keep their ideas to themselves or within a tight circle of trusted friends and peers.  And when fear of racism makes groups hide their true face from the public or people of another racial make-up it breeds, well....racism.

The race card hurts America.  Let's put it away.  Let's stop pretending every disagreement is racially motivated.  Things aren't perfect here in America, but crying "foul" every time someone makes a statement of disagreement only makes things worse.

Here's actor Morgan Freeman on Piers Morgan.  He adamantly states he believes the Tea Party wants Obama out of office because of racist reasons.  It doesn't make sense.

The Impending Death of the Tea Party, Part II

Back in early April, I posted about the Impending Death of the Tea Party.  Well, guess what ladies and gentleman of the Tea Party, it's here.

Because of the recent Debt Ceiling deal, the Tea Party surely feels completely deflated.  They focused so hard on getting the "right" people elected, and those elected officials have nearly all let them down by increasing the debt ceiling by 2.4 Trillion dollars.  The "cuts" associated with the increase in the debt ceiling are hardly real.  They are loosely defined and they are spread over ten years.  The first $900 billion in debt ceiling increase, though?  It'll be here by February.

The Tea Party now has to make up it's mind.  They only have two choices: roll over and die (and become nothing more than a blip in the political and economic history of this country), or change your focus and charge on.

The Tea Partiers surely have now realized that they are not supported by the Republican Party.  The Republicans wooed the Tea party into bed on a first date by saying all the right things to them.  Now, it's the next morning and the Tea Party is awakening to a note left on the pillow.

Stay focused on electing Republicans to office in the hopes they are going to reduce spending, and true fiscal conservatives will lose faith in you just as you have lost faith in the swarm of Republicans you elected.

Change your focus, though, to electing Libertarians (both large and small "L") and you have a chance to find your cause revitalized.  You will be supporting officials who will be true in their support of limiting spending.

Support Libertarians, and you won't wake up some morning with a note on your pillow.  Instead, you'll find yourself with a ring on your finger.

The Impending Death of the Tea Party

According to a recent CNN/Opinion Research survey, more than half of Americans now have an unfavorable opinion of the Tea Party.  I must admit, I am not surprised.  Truthfully, I am shocked that it took this long.

The Tea Party started with the best of intentions, and the greatest of goals.  LOWER TAXES.  REDUCE SPENDING.  That got our country's attention. Our citizens are sick of the spending, and they are sick of the taxing.  The Tea Party got really popular, really fast.  Like most boom towns, you could expect some of that initial surge to wane.  This is more than just a standard settling, though...opinions of the Tea party have actually reversed.

Why would this happen?  Did our public suddenly change their mind on wanting spending reduced?  Did people spontaneously realize they wanted more taxes?  Of course not.  The change wasn't our attitude towards these things, the change was within the Tea Party itself.

You see, the Tea Party lost its focus.  It was originally an independent organization with its own set of ideals.  It became nothing more than an arm of the Republican Party.  People didn't lose their interest in lower taxes and reduced spending, they only maintained their existing disappointment with the GOP.

Once Tea Party supporters began to make the realization that their support was, more or less, Republican support, they lost their desire to stand with the group.  The Tea Party supporters are aware that the Republicans don't stand for real spending cuts, only for small and insignificant cuts that they use as political ploys to claim victory.

Those who no longer support the Tea Party changed their mind on the group because they feel we deserve more.  If all they wanted was to support the Republicans pathetic attempts at lowering the budget, then they would have supported the Republican plan from the word "Go."  That wasn't what they wanted, though...Tea Partiers wanted greater cuts than the Republicans would be willing to offer.

Now the Tea Party's infiltration from Republicans is nearly complete.  The Tea Party itself now is just another group out there saying "Please vote GOP!"  Our citizens have caught on.  The original Tea Party is gone.  What remains is a masquerade.  That's not what yesterday's Tea Party supporters signed up for.
