Random Knick Knack Orbs

In America, I love to decorate my house with orbs/decorative balls {whatever you want to call them- I personally like "Orbs"} but here they aren't really a decorating staple. So I have had to get a little creative and make my own.

Image

Like everything else, styrofoam balls aren't easy to come by either, so I had to come up with another solution. SO i went with some of those playplace ball pit balls, and ping pong balls- because what else would make more sense here than ping pong balls?

One day I just started using random things to make them with.

My best friend had linked a Martha Stewart project on her pinterest page in which you decoupage decorative napkins to eggs. I had these SUPER cute Ikea napkins and thought it would be a great idea to make an orb with them.

Image

So I started by covering one ball with yellow crepe paper.
Then I cut out the leaves and branches and added those.

Image

Then for the smaller ball, I used the print from the background of the napkin and covered it.

Next, I went with yarn. First I did the teal one and spiraled all the way around using a lot of hot glue.... which was too tedious for more than 1, so for the other 2 I just wrapped it like a ball of yarn.

Image

Then I cut up some scraps of scrapbooking paper into squares, and mod podged them on another one. Tedious easy enough!

Image

Then to go along with it, I cut strips of paper, sewed them all together at one end and secured them all together on the inside and outside with beads. Then I brought them all together at the other end, sewed them together again, doing the same thing with the beads, and then fanned them out to make a sphere.

Image

Then I got a little crazy. I thought buttons would be fun and had this bag of really old ones so I decided to use those. I think I originally envisioned a cute little ball with little pastel color buttons covering it in a nice pattern.... but that's not quite how it turned out. I have to say though, I really do like it.

another side....

and another....

I wanted to add a little something to the vase I was putting them in, so I used some of the velvet ribbon that I bought at the fabric market in the fall.

Image

Ta-Da!
It's pretty random, but I like it.

Image

I put it on top of this plant stand since {surprise, surprise} the plant that I did have there died.

Image

Now, what random things can you come up with for me to make more orbs with?

Joyfully Orbed,

We made it into a whole birthday weekend together with 2 of my fave girls.

FunFunFun.

Then, a few weeks later we celebrated my sweet friend Hannah's 24th.

Image

Around here, we get a little bit creative with the birthdays since there isn't much to choose from. Hannah loveloveloves Elephants. So we went out on a crazy limb and had a jungle-themed party for her.

Image

There were 2 tourists, a lion, an elephant, a cheetah, a panther, 2 zebras, a dinosaur, and a potty-training 2 year old with no pants.

Image

Per usual, mexican dinner and a giant flaming candle cake.

Image

And some ridic. pictures.

Image

Mad props to LeeAnn for the sweet decorations.

And then like a week later.... Ryan also turned 24!

Yessss.

We all wore our fluffy PJs again. And then went and played Sardines in the dark scary park.
The things we do for the people we love.

Yay for fluffy pjs.

THEN a few weeks later, our friend Joseph turned 25!

and we had BBQ! Which was amazing.

I was a slacker on pictures that night.

But I did get this one- LeeAnn makes everyone these FUN birthday signs that are super cute.

And finally, last weekend we celebrated Janessa's 26th!

More crazy flaming, singing candles.

We clearly had a great time.

Image

Then, on our way out of the park everyone decided they wanted to ride the swings.

Image

We know that this nauseous girl was not taking part.

But it did give me a fun chance to practice taking pictures.

They were definitely feeling a little woozy.

Then we ended the night at our new favorite coffee shop- the snail.
