BELLA ITALIA

ImageIt's difficult not to like these old Pinarello machines a lot. Go Italy!

MAD COLNAGO PAINTJOB

ImageThis is how the Italians did it in the '80s. Could you ask for more?

A SLOW GIRO

ImageIn protest of the unsafe conditions that some riders feel led to the tragic crash of Pedro Horillo the day before, they conducted the 9th round of this year's Giro d'Italia in slow motion through the streets of Milan. Later, Lance Armstrong defended the unpopular and unannounced action by arguing that the tram tracks and many parked cars are a hazard to the riders. The Giro will continue as scheduled and at normal speed tomorrow.

SOMETHING FOR THE COPPI FANS

ImageI just found a large collection of old Fausto Coppi images. Great sports photography, caricatures, and press covers.

THE DOCTOR RIDES A CINELLI

ImageMy friend Dr. Peter had tired of his drop bar, so he swung by to get a new handlebar and grips for his beautiful Cinelli fixie.
When you see these top-of-the-line Italian machines up close, you realize what all the fuzz is about: super light Columbus tubes, nicely finished lugs, and full attention to the details.
Apparently, it once belonged to a Danish rider who used it in some Tour de Denmark competitions back in the 1990s.

VINTAGE CINELLI STEMS & BARS

ImageThere's a good reason why the vintage Cinelli stems are so much in demand. Just take a look at the beauties in this image.
The adjustable track stem is absolutely incredible. As Andy from Little Britain would say, “I want that one!"
Here's the rest of the old catalogue of stems and bars from Cinelli, as well as a lot of other useful info on the legendary Italian company.

THE CINELLI LEGACY

ImageThe handsome fellow in the image is Cino Cinelli, Italian champion of cycling and founder of the renowned Cinelli bicycle brand. Ridden by great cyclists like Fausto Coppi (1947) and Ole Ritter (1968), the Cinelli frames, forks and components are known for their superior quality and high-level craftsmanship. Their forged steel stems, for instance, are sought-after items that fetch high prices on the second-hand market. Go here for much more info and old images from the history of Cinelli.

SOME REALLY NEAT BIKE ART

ImageHere's a gallery of incredible pencil drawings of Italian luxury bicycles in all their simplicity and glory.

LOVIN' THAT OLD STUFF

ImageCinelli is one of the prime makers of Italian bicycles. And this 1949 logo of theirs is great. Go to Velo-retro for a large collection of vintage catalogues and logo T-shirts.
