About Lounge

Lounge, also known as Lounge Music, is a subgenre of easy listening that was popular in the 50s and 60s. The sound of it has changed over time and it’s even absorbed other styles of music that weren’t lounge when they started out. It takes inspiration from multiple genres, including big band and mambo.

There are multiple different styles of lounge music and what the genre is has shifted over time. Some of it is meant to create an atmosphere that puts listeners in a different, peaceful environment, while other parts of lounge are more similar to elevator music. Swing, jazz, and traditional pop style lounge singers, who are more associated with a more soulful, sultry style of music. A lot of more modern lounge is actually found in electronica subgenres like chillout.
