What's Subjam?

Subjam is a local music, live audio focused social network. We provide online tools for in-real-life music scenes.

Our (currently beta) app lets you broadcast and record live from rehearsal spaces, venues and anywhere else with a data connection.

Our next milestones are to develop local “scene” groups, artist sponsorships, and special venue and business profiles. Subjam makes money from sponsorships and (future) paid premium features.

Roadmap:
  1. Scenes: Public and private groups based on location/genre/etc, with cross-scene collaboration features
  2. Sponsorships: Sponsor events, artists and entire communities with recurring financial options
  3. Venue & Business Profiles: Special profiles/pages just for music venues and businesses who support local music
  4. 24/7 Radio Streams: Streaming radio stations with live takeover ability from scene members
  5. Event calendars: Promote events and coordinate with others
  6. Many more social features unique to supporting the scene

We believe in:
  • Local, independent, DIY music scenes
  • Open content licensing
  • Open media codecs with no DRM restrictions
  • Open source software

We use the Creative Commons family of licenses for content distribution. Everyone who broadcasts on Subjam possess and retain full rights, including copyright, over their material.

Please help us move forward with your generous sponsorship.

We're a "Social Purpose Corporation"

Subjam is an SPC (Social Purpose Corporation). Our charter lists specific social purposes which afford us creativity in how we operate.

You see, typically speaking, the sole purpose of a corporation is to maximize profit. If this purpose is not being met, the corporation can be sued by its shareholders. This can cause even the most ambitious businesses to buckle under the pressure to make money above all other goals, losing credibility with their audience and ultimately turning them into a an ethically empty shell of what they initially set out to be.

Being an SPC liberates us from this trap. We’re able to focus on what’s important not only for the company, but for those we serve. We cannot (and will not) be forced to compromise our integrity or our social purposes for the sake of maximizing profits. We believe our inevitable success will come from practicing our social purposes.

Subjam’s Social Purposes are to:

  1. Positively affect global music culture
  2. Support music communities
  3. Promote content under free/libre licenses
  4. Promote Free and Open Source Software (F/OSS) and media codecs
