Off my Twitter hiatus to say this:
I was really honored to be invited on to the @hubermanlab podcast. A really enjoyable couple of days.
I hope you dig it!

‘Reflexive eccentrics’ — an exercise type we’ve been working with now for over 20 years: essentially, training eRFD — obviously important for sprinting.
Great to see this type of work beginning to get some attention in scientific circles

Soccer players generally have no idea how to sprint. And this relative lack of knowing HOW to sprint negatively affects not only the way they play the game, but their sustainability within it.
A short thread:
First principles of coaching:
1. communicate your PHILOSOPHY
2. encourage AUTONOMY
3. work towards STRENGTHS
4. instill BELIEF
5. identify PROBLEMS
6. set clear OBJECTIVES
7. remain FLUID
8. learn from MISTAKES

Really enjoyed the #coachesvscovid19 Cam Josse presentation on speed development for team-sport athletes. Cam has a great understanding of the importance of sprinting technique in team-sports, and presents it really well!

We can only learn from failure through:
1. Reflection
2. Claiming responsibility
3. Taking action
If we follow the above three steps, it is not failure at all - but a lesson.
It is life
A reminder
1. The🗝️ to athlete health is technical proficiency
2. Sprinting underpins all field-based sports
3. Coaches NEED to understand how to effectively teach appropriate sprint technique
4. No amount of Nordics will ‘bulletproof’ an athlete with poor technique
The biggest challenge of a coach is in understanding and implementing the most appropriate training system for each individual athlete.
If all you do is plug all athletes into one single system, you are not coaching.
Importance of dorsiflexion:
Think about the foot as you would your hand if you are punching someone. You wouldn’t punch with an open fist; rather you squeeze tightly, and punch through
It is the same with the foot - “squeeze and punch” 🥊
