A Few Of My Favorite Things - Day 24

My sister made these cute santas (and snowmen, not pictured) soda bottle covers.  She's so awesome to sew so much. She's the one who also made the Christmas Card Holder.

A Few Of My Favorite Things - Day 19

Day 19: Our stockings.  A little story to these, since they're not traditional stockings.  This is what Jaron's family has done since he was little.  They are four tube socks sewn together to make a little person.  When I first saw them, I was a little reluctant to carry on this tradition.  I had always wanted the elegant, handmade sock-shaped stockings.  But these have grown on me and I love them.

We finally let Kaden and Kaylee decorate theirs.  Until now, they just wore baby clothes that didn't stay on well.  I really like them now that they have their own clothes.

A Few Of My Favorite Things - Days 15, 16, 17, and 18

Day 15: Jaron's aunt gave everyone these snowmen at their Christmas Family Home Evening one year.  The trays fold up to be a solid snow man, or they fold down (as shown) to be able to serve food on.  I love it!

Day 16: Our neighbors in Logan gave us these JOY blocks, and I love them!

Day 17: This year we finally got a star that we like.

Day 18: Neighbor gifts ready to deliver.  We did bottled salsa a few months ago.  It was so nice to have it all done quick!

A Few Of My Favorite Things - Day 8 & 11

Apparently I missed Day 8.  Oops!

Day 8: These are our "firsts" ornaments.

A Few Of My Favorite Things - Day 10

This is our countdown calendar I made a few years ago.  Kaden loves to move the snowflake every day.  I haven't had to remind him yet!  He likes to count up, not down, though.

A Few Of My Favorite Things - Day 9

Sorry it's a day late.  This is a Christmas card holder my sister made.  I love it!

This is my one and only nativity set.  My mom gave it to me when I was in college and I love it.  It's so simple, yet so beautiful.

A Few Of My Favorite Things - Day 3

Image

My aunt was trying to get rid of some things and we came across these ornaments that she thinks were my grandma's.  I love looking at prices of things we find.  These were only $0.19 at Skaggs!

A Few Of My Favorite Things - Day 2

Image
When we visited Jaron's parents, his mom was making these mini beaded temples for ornaments.  She taught us how to make them and I love it!  The bottom is open so it can sit over a light.

A Few Of My Favorite Things - Day 1

I had this brilliant idea to post every day in December.  It was going to be my favorite things about Christmas and winter.  Then we didn't have power most of yesterday, so the plan was foiled and I'm already behind.  So, starting late, I'll share a memory from last year.  Click here to see Kaylee's awesome dance moves.

Overheard - Kadenism

Kaden and I just saw a commercial for the Cricut cutting machine.  They showed a lot of cool things to do with it.  When the commercial was over, Kaden asked, "Can you get that to keep me entertained?"

Overheard - Kayleeism

Kaylee was trying to get into a chair when this conversation happened:
Kaylee: I can't do it!
Me: Why can't you?
Kaylee: My butt...too big!

Overheard - Kayleeisms

Last night we went to a Halloween storytime ay the library.  One of the story tellers was dressed as Mad Eye Moody from Harry Potter.  Kaden got a kick out of his magic eye.  Kaylee loved him, too.  When he would go to the front, she would say "I yike him!"

Overheard - Kadenism

Kaden asked if most of the food he ate went to his brain so his brain could eat.  I briefly explained digestion and how the nutrients were taken to his brain.  His response was, "Will you please be quiet?  My brain is building a house to live in."

Overheard - Kadenism

While reading The Mixed Up Chameleon, Jaron taught this to Kaden.  He now says it every time we get to the turtle part.

The quote is from Master of Disguise.  Not my favorite movie, but I must admit, it's funny to hear Kaden say it!

Hill Air Force Base Museum

Today was Food For Life day at the Hill Air Force Base museum.  They had all sort of displays and they let people go inside some of the planes.  The kids were in heaven!  Every time we drive by, they ask if we can go there.  They finally got to today.

Overheard - Primary

This past Sunday was entertaining for kids comments.

During singing time, a boy on the front row wasn't singing.  The chorister asked why, and he responded, "I'm too pretty to sing!"

A bit later, the chorister was having me play songs and having the kids guess the name.  When we got to "I Will Follow God's Plan" the kids couldn't get the title right.  The chorister (who is male) asked, "If my life has a plan, whose plan is it?" One kid responded with "Your wife's!"

Pineview Reservoir

At the beginning of the year, instead of making new years resolutions, we made a list of fun things we each wanted to do this year.  Kaden's included swimming at the beach and building a sand castle.  Being Labor Day weekend, we realized this could be our last chance to get to a beach without driving many, many hours.  So, we headed to Pineview Reservoir for the afternoon.  The weather was beautiful, but it got a little chilly with the breeze.  We had lots of fun swimming and digging in the sand.  It was a great way to wrap up the summer!

Random Kaylee

Kaylee is getting a little more hair, and it's usually curly!
Image

She really likes to lounge in the pool.  Seriously, she just laid there for a long time.
Image

She loved playing with hats with her cousin.
Image

She managed to trip and hit her head on the corner of a chair.  Just as this was healing, she managed to run into the corner of the wall, giving her a matching bump on the other side.
Image

She likes to get inside these blocks when we put them together.  She pretends to be a "bobot" (robot).
Image

I've caught her twice napping with this doll dress on her head.
Image

She absolutely LOVES the music to Tangled (and the movie itself).  When the music is on, she gets on the table and dances her heart out.  When I watched more closely, she isn't just dancing, she's actually acting it out!  Unfortunately, she stops every time I point a camera at her, so I haven't been able to catch in on video.  I was able to catch a little action at other times, though!  (The sound isn't working for me, hopefully it works for you).

KINDERGARTEN!!!

I can't believe Kaden is in Kindergarten!  I got to go with him today to meet his teacher and figure everything out.  He looked at the playground and said, "I think I can handle this place myself...except the monkey bars.". Afterward, he said, "That was the best day of school ever!"

Overheard - Kaylee-ism

Last night after Kaylee's bath, I said, "We need to comb your hair so it doesn't get tangled.". She immediately replied, "Movie night!?!?!?!". She's always begging to watch Tangled for movie night, and she thought that's what she was getting.

Overheard - Kaden & Kaylee-ism

Conversation on our way to church:
Kaden: Kaylee, are you a gliberty glop?
Kaylee: No.
Kaden: Are you a goober head?
Kaylee: No.
Kaden: Then what are you?
Kaylee: Cute!

Can you guess what she's singing?  If not, enjoy a little dance from her.

Overheard - Kadenism

While playing video games with his cousins, Kaden got up and started running around.  When someone asked what he was doing, he said, "I'm running so my heart doesn't stop beating.  It makes it go faster so it doesn't stop."

Swimming lessons

Image

Kaden just finished his first week of swimming lessons. I was worried he would freak out or not listen to his teachers, but he"s done great!

Overheard-Kadenism

There is a field up the street we pass often.  A few weeks ago Kaden started saying, "Hey!" every time we drove past.  After saying, "What?" several times, he said, "Hay, I see hay!"

I assumed Jaron taught him this.  After finding out Jaron thought I had taught it to him, I asked Kaden who taught him that.  His response?  "My heart, and I can hear it right now telling me that."  Apparently he came up with it all by himself.

Family Reunion *Updated*

Jaron's family had a reunion last weekend.  We were prepared for a fun evening of camping when his sister called to tell her adventure of their camping one night earlier.  You can read her story here (along with a little family update).  The campsite got flooded, so we had to find somewhere else.  We ended up in Green Canyon at a site with no close bridge across the river.  That's not usually a problem in Green Canyon, but it is this year with all the snow.  Here's how we ended up getting our stuff across.

Jaron and Bryce moved rocks into the river to step across, then we just passed gear over it.  Super fun.
Image

Image

It's a good thing Kaden and Kaylee are entertained by throwing rocks in the river.  It was a challenge for them to not hit anyone.
Image

Of course, you can't camp without s'mores.  Yes, Kaden's doesn't have a top graham cracker and his marshmallow isn't toasted.  I'm sure it was still awesome.
Image

The next morning, the kids went on a bear hunt.
Image

Image

Image

I didn't get a picture of it, but we didn't SEE a real bear.  There was a bear that left gummy bears all over the trees, though!  Kaden is still convinced that Grandpa was the bear, even though he was carrying Kaylee most of the time.  Thanks, Mr. (or Mrs.) Bear!

Next, we headed to Terra's house for horses and food.  More importantly, the trampoline.  This kept Kaden entertained a lot!
Image

Aunt Meghan was super nice to play with Kaylee on the trampoline.
Image

Then the horses.  Kaden and Kaylee really wanted to ride.

So, Kaden went with Rhiannon first.
Image

Then he hadn't had enough and decided to brave it by himself.  He did awesome!
Image

Kaylee rode with daddy and I think she liked it.  She kept saying "Ehaw, Ehaw."
Image

*UPDATE*
I'm not a fan of horses, but here's proof that I rode.
Image

Next up, the Nelson Family Food Fight.  We were given three ingredients - peanut butter, marshmallows, and peppers - and had to make something that included all of them.  These are PMS cookies and they won!  We did fudge a little with peppers and use peppermints.  They're pretty good, though :)
Image

And finally, we had a rubber duck derby where the kids had to blow on their ducks and get them to the other side of the pool.
Image

Kaden managed to almost fall in the pool, but he won!
Image

He was just a little wet for the ride home.
Image

We had to leave before the adults got going, but I'm sure it was a blast.  Thanks for a fun reunion!
