Last Thursday we found out what we are having. We had dinner with my family on Saturday, so I decided to make colored cookie dough (eggless, so safe to eat) and dip it in chocolate to announce what it is. They were pretty yummy!

What's Going On...
Yes, it's been a long time. And one of these days I may get around to posting about what we've been up to since Halloween. But for now, you just get to know that we're expecting baby #3 in August! Here's a picture of the happy, wiggly alien waving hello at 12 weeks.

Update
Ok, I finally have TWO free hands, so I can actually write a little!
Here's a little bit of Kaylee's story, now that she's a week old:
We went to the doctor last Thursday for the usual appointment. This was the day before my due date. We asked about induction because my parents would be leaving soon, Jaron had an out-of-town job interview, and I was just ready to be done. He said he would do it if we could find the time. The doctor was going to be out of town Friday, the anesthesiologists don't like to do epidurals for voluntary inductions on Saturday, and Monday was totally booked. He said Sunday would be the most likely day, so we figured that would work. My parents were leaving Monday, so it would be close, but at least they could see her. The doctor said he'd see what he could arrange, then call me.
I headed back to work with the plan to stay the rest of the day. Not even an hour after I was back at work, he called and said "How about in the next hour or so?" I suddenly started to panic, and said "Sure, that works!" He said the hospital would call when they were ready for me to come in. I headed home to make sure everything was really ready.
They really weren't ready at the hospital in an hour, so Jaron and I frantically got the apartment cleaned up, took movies back to Redbox, and dropped some stuff off at the storage unit. At 3:30 they were ready, so off we went!
Everything went good, except my epidural started to wear off on my right side RIGHT before I was ready to start pushing. Luckily the anesthesiologist came quick and gave me more stuff. I would have just cried if it didn't work! I know, I'm a wimp. It was a really easy delivery, though, and she's just a little angel.
Snuggling with Grandma Ann (sorry, I didn't get a good picture with Grandpa Ken)

Kaden has been a great big brother. He helps change diapers (at least he gets the diaper and wipes out for me), and he like to make her smile...well, he tries.

He loves to hold her

He also always makes sure I know when she's crying. He's being a little more independent now. He usually wants help going to the bathroom, even though all we usually do is sit and watch him, then help wash hands. He also gets his breakfast ready when I'm too slow to do it. This probably isn't the best thing to let him do, but hey, a kid has to eat, right?
He pulls a chair over to the counter and climbs up. He picks whatever bowl he wants (one day it was an Elmo cup)

Then he climbs down and gets his cereal. He's pretty good to not spill too much cereal. He even puts the chair back where it belongs.

10 Ways to Stay Pregnant
I’ll admit, we haven’t tried all the old wives tales to get this kid here, but we’ve learned that many “sure-fire” ways to induce labor won’t always work.
- Spicy food – no, just bad heartburn. Maybe I need to kick it up a notch.
- Hot bath – no, just makes more hot flashes
- Walking – nope
- Pizza, coke, and…you know, what got us into this in the first place (this is a family friendly blog!) – nope, nothing. Ok, I didn’t actually drink Coke, I had root beer, but it was a Coke product, so I think that should totally count.
- Pickle juice – I ate the pickles but didn’t drink the juice, maybe that’s the problem
- Unpacking the hospital bag. Yes, I said UNpacking – didn’t work
- Long bumpy car ride – nope. Maybe it wasn’t bumpy enough?
- Schedule a doctors appointment for Kaden – nope, the appointment was a breeze
- Bribery – nope, not even for a shopping spree, diamonds, or chocolate. Maybe it’s not really a girl!
- Giving up – nope, not even this has worked yet
And so, we wait. And wait. And keep waiting.
Yes, I know, I’m whining. I’m not due until Friday, but I’m just not patient. I’m sure she’ll be born on Monday…as soon as my parents leave.

Random Thoughts
I know this is totally random, but I've been thinking about it lately.
When I was pregnant with Kaden, I think there were only 2 people I knew that were having girls. Everyone else was having boys, and I knew a LOT of pregnant people! We all decided it was because Heavenly Father was going to need a lot of missionaries in 19 years from then. Logical, right?
Well, of the people I know that are expecting now, that know what they are having, I only know one person that is expecting a boy in the near future. There's at least 6 of us in our ward that are due this summer, and several just had babies (only one of the recent births was a boy). So, does this mean that all these little girls are for those boys that were born 2-3 years ago? I know, it's a stretch, but it could work, right?

The Reason
I learned something from Jaron taking anatomy twice. That is that everything the body does really does have a purpose. Stuff like fevers fighting infections, fingernails helping protect our fingers, and I bet there's even a reason tears are salty, but I don't know why. I may not understand why our bodies work like they do, but there is a reason for it all.
This weekend, I made a discovery about why our bodies work how they do. You see, when you're pregnant (for those of you who haven't experienced it), you tend to not lose as much of you hair as you usually would. This is one of those things I've never understood the reason behind. It actually drove me nuts because I don't need poofier hair. It has all become clear to me, though.
As I was getting out of the shower the other day, I realized how uncomfortable it was becoming to bend over. Then I realized there wasn't any hair that I had to clean out of the shower drain. Then it came to me: that's the reason our hair doesn't fall out when we're pregnant. It's so that we don't have to deal with trying to bend over and get it out of the drain!
Life makes sense now.

It's really a...
Girl!
We had a doctors appointment yesterday and they did a quick ultrasound just to make sure, and she sure is a girl! All is well, except that I'm anemic, so I now get to add an iron supplement to my daily diet. Oh yay.
We went girl-clothes shopping afterward and Kaden was SOOOO excited to help pick stuff for her. He went straight for the toys, picked up a soccer ball and some sort of Elmo toy, and stated, "We need to get THESE for baby Kaylee!" I asked, "Do you think she'll like those?" Of course, his response was "YES!"
Well, we didn't get the soccer ball or Elmo toy, but we found an absolutely adorable little green spring dress. Oh, it's so cute, I can't wait! I need to work on controlling the spending, though. I could really go crazy with little girl clothes!

And it's a....
Baby!
I'm not sure if I can tell you what we're having! The tech was 90% sure it was a girl, but this kid sure wasn't cooperative. She stayed on her stomach the whole time, even after a lot of hitting and poking. I think it's a girl. Jaron thinks it's a girl. But we'll be keeping the tags on anything pink and/or lacy that we get!

Utah vs. Iowa
I'm going to ramble. Feel free to ignore this post.
We had our 2nd doctors appointment today, and I'm a little shocked at the difference in my doctors in Iowa and my doctor here. First off, in Iowa I had to see 4 doctors in the same practice. I didn't get to just pick one. I never felt like any of them knew me, or even cared. They were just there to do their job. From talking to friends and calling around to doctors out there, I found out that is how most OB/GYN's in that area are, so I just stuck with it. I think that's why there are more mid-wives out there than here.
So, at our appointment yesterday, I was shocked when the doctor stopped and listened to my questions and concerns. He cared that I had been sick this weekend. He actually talked to Jaron, too! Amazing! We even get to have an ultrasound in 2 weeks (at 18 weeks). In Iowa, I HAD to wait until I was 22 weeks. That seemed like an eternity! I actually got to talk to the billing lady and figure out all our options. She had already talked to our insurance company to find out how much they cover and all that. Everyone was so helpful!
I'm very grateful for my friend who recommended this doctor, and I hope it stays this way!!!

Announcement
I guess it's time for an announcement. I'm pregnant! We're expecting May 15. Yes, that's right after graduation and Kaden's birthday, but we like May birthdays!
We're officially in the 2nd trimester and I am starting to feel a little better. That's something that never happened with Kaden. I kept waiting for that magic time when I would feel good, and it just never came. Of course, me feeling good today could change when I get home tonight, since evenings are when I start feeling icky.
Anyways, we're excited about it, and I'll keep updates here!
I know the next post isn't nearly as exciting as this, but it has some good thoughts that might make you smile today, so feel free to keep reading!
