Founder & Executive Chair

“Complexity kills. It sucks the life out of developers. It makes products difficult to plan, build, test, deliver, and support.”

Ray Ozzie is a software entrepreneur with a particular passion for communications software and infrastructure. Having created numerous products over the years including Microsoft Azure and Lotus Notes, his early career was shaped by his work on Lotus 1-2-3, Symphony, and VisiCalc. He was CTO and Chief Software Architect of Microsoft, and serves as a director of Hewlett Packard Enterprise and Safecast, a global citizen science initiative founded in the wake of Fukushima.

Blues was founded with a clear mission: to make secure, scalable IoT connectivity simple and accessible for every developer.

  • The inspiration behind Blues

Japan’s devastating tsunami triggered the Fukushima nuclear disaster. Ray Ozzie joined a global team of scientists and engineers who volunteered to monitor and share radiation levels in affected areas. Within weeks, they built portable wireless devices called Radnotes that collected and transmitted radiation data, making it freely available to the public.

  • Blues is founded

Ray’s experience building Radnotes revealed just how complex it was to create a secure, cellular-connected IoT device from scratch. Determined to change that, he developed the first versions of the Notecard and Notehub — products designed to remove complexity and empower developers of all backgrounds. Blues was born with a clear mission: make secure, scalable IoT connectivity simple and accessible for every developer.
