Given the long history of conferences having specific rules that differ from those of the NCAA, and the fact the Patriot League was not involved in McQuaide’s original suit, this seems to be a reasonable stance for the NCAA to take.
NEW: The NCAA filed a brief in opposition, contending that the Patriot League is a "separate entity from the NCAA."
As the conference was not "served process and is not a defendant," the
NCAA is contending Pat McQuaide's motion to clarify is not applicable to the Patriot.
