Welcome to the patterning math worksheets page at Math-Drills.com where you might not find quilts, but you will find patterns in math. Patterns can be found everywhere in mathematics. Students need to be able to recognize, identify and extend patterns to be able to function in mathematics. This page includes a selection of Patterning math worksheets to help you teach, support or learn patterning concepts.

Patterning Resources
Pascal's triangle has a number of applications in mathematics including patterning. One of the basic activities with Pascal's triangle is identifying the patterns in the triangle. More advanced students might relate the Fibonacci numbers derived from Pascal's triangle to population studies.

If you don't have the real thing, or your students use them as projectiles, print the pattern blocks below to help you teach patterning.

Picture Patterns Worksheets
The picture patterns worksheets below come in a number of themes and include various configurations of shape, size and rotation attributes. The worksheets include the answers mixed up at the bottom of the page, but you can easily exclude these if you don't want them to appear: simply fold that part up before you copy the page, cut it off of an individual print out, or size the window on your screen, so that part doesn't show. Number Patterns Worksheets
Number patterns are everywhere in mathematics. Skills in recognizing and creating number patterns will ensure students are able to add and subtract efficiently, recognize patterns in numbers, and handle more complex math activities that use patterns.

Making Number Patterns from Written Rules
The classic Sudoku is a nine-by-nine grid in which there are nine smaller three-by-three boxes. The goal is to fill in the entire grid in such a way that the digits from 1 to 9 all appear in each row, column and small box exactly once. It is an exercise in logic and deductive reasoning. Students can use problem-solving and pattern-recognition strategies to help them solve the puzzles. Smaller versions of Sudoku also exist, and they are an easier introduction to the logic behind Sudokus. The smaller versions are often called Shidokus which are four-by-four grids with four smaller two-by-two grids, and Rokudokus which are six-by-six grids with six smaller two-by-three grids. There are easy, intermediate and challenging versions of each type of Sudoku in this section.
