    Vietnam represents part of the trend of Southeast Asian navies modernizing their major surface combatant forces with larger and better equipped multi-role as opposed to general-purpose vessels. This notwithstanding the rise of sea denial capabilities such as USVs.

    This. So to anyone using the terminology of ‘pre-war’ defence build-up, please don’t. Also for a different context. During the same period Japan built and commissioned 9 frigates- and roughly 30 combatants, including subs, overall. Just let that sink in.

    Glacial... Note: In the same 9+ years timescale that HMS Glasgow has been under construction but still not even gone to sea, nine T23s were delivered.
