Log message:
atari800: updated to 7.2.1
7.2.1 (2026/09/13) — build fixes only
This release just fixes some build errors so for 7.2.x new features read below:
7.2.0 (2026/09/12) — on-screen keyboard and better joystick handling
Core:
More accurate emulation: cycle-precise POKEY timer IRQs and
VSCROL DLI timing; fixes the "Rewind 2" demo
Altirra OS updated to 3.49, Altirra BASIC to 1.59
F1-F12 special keys (open-menu, OPTION, SELECT, START, etc.) can now
be rebound via the UI
On-screen keyboard improvements: enabled by default, rebindable
F11 hotkey, SDL2 controller button mapping, console key support
Dropped the /etc/atari800.cfg system-wide fallback on Unix
Fixed "Save Configuration" doing nothing on builds without
screenshots
Acid800 suite wired into "make check" so every change is tested
SDL joystick handling:
Hat or axes picked automatically from what the device reports;
the -joy0hat..-joy3hat options were removed
Port settings renamed from JOY_%d_* to JOY_PORT_%d_* (old keys
still accepted)
Ports remember their joysticks (and auto-detected defaults) across
runs, even while disconnected
Small sticks default to fire trigger and wide diagonals
F1 menu and on-screen keyboard work with any host joystick, no
port binding needed
Fixed SDL1 build
Falcon/FireBee:
Precise POKEY IRQs, fixed sound latency, uSound v2 API
Stack/flags in LDFLAGS, mintelf target support re-introduced

atari800: updated to 7.0.0
7.0.0
New features:
Auto-download missing OS/BASIC ROMs from the Internet
Mount zipped disk images directly from the Internet
Portable mode — config file and data storage next to the executable
Platform specific:
Windows: 32/64-bit builds, installer executable, portable zip archive
Windows: app icon, MP3 recording support
Windows: win32-no-network build for XP compatibility
macOS: ready-to-run .dmg archive
Linux: AppImage builds (x86_64 + i386)
Android: auto-download ROMs, upgrade dialog
Changes to config file search order:
--config argument — exact path given on command line
Portable exe dir — exe_dir/.atari800.cfg if exe dir is writable
$HOME default — ~/.atari800.cfg (if neither of the above applies)
plus $HOME now respects MS Windows specifics (USERPROFILE etc.)
If the resolved path (1, 2, or 3) doesn't exist:
HOME fallback — try ~/.atari800.cfg (only in portable mode)
System-wide — /etc/atari800.cfg (only if steps 1-4 all failed)
Fresh defaults — create new config at the path from step 1/2/3
