Python Tutorial: All Python Tutorials and Examples

Python is a general-purpose, interpreted programming language created by Guido van Rossum and first released in 1991, known for its readable syntax and its large standard library. It is open source, free for commercial use, and among the most widely used languages for automation, web back ends, data analysis and machine learning.

This page is the index of every Python tutorial on HowToDoInJava. A short overview of the language and a learning path for beginners come first, followed by all articles grouped by topic, from basics and data types to files, JSON and libraries.

1. Why Learn Python

A few properties explain why Python is often the first language people learn and the one teams reach for when they need results fast.

1.1. Python is Interpreted

Compiled languages such as C translate source code into machine code before it runs. Python compiles source code to bytecode on the fly and runs it in the interpreter, so we write a file and run it with python app.py without a separate build step. The interactive prompt runs single statements, which makes experiments cheap.

1.2. Python is Simple and Readable

Python code is short and close to plain English. Python 3.14 has 35 keywords, compared with about 50 in Java and more than 80 in C++, and the Python keywords tutorial lists them all.

  • A new line ends a statement, so Python needs no semicolons.
  • Indentation defines blocks such as loops, functions and classes, where other languages use curly braces.
  • Variables need no type declarations, because the type belongs to the value.
def greet(names):
    for name in names:
        if name:
            print(f"Hello, {name}!")

greet(["Alex", "", "Sam"])
Hello, Alex!
Hello, Sam!

1.3. Uses of Python

Python covers most kinds of software, either with the standard library or with third-party packages from PyPI.

  • Scripting and automation of files, reports and system tasks.
  • Web back ends and APIs with Django, Flask and FastAPI.
  • Data analysis and visualization with pandas and NumPy.
  • Machine learning and AI with libraries such as scikit-learn and PyTorch.
  • Web scraping and testing with tools such as Beautiful Soup and pytest.

2. Learning Path for Beginners

These ten tutorials cover the core language in the order most learners need it. Each one links onward to related topics.

  1. Python Hello World Program: Write and Run Your First Script
  2. Python Variables: Naming Rules, Scope and Examples
  3. Python Data Types: All Built-in Types with Examples
  4. Python Strings: Slicing, Formatting and All String Methods
  5. Python List: Create, Add, Remove, Sort and List Methods
  6. Python Dictionary: Create, Access, Update and Methods
  7. Python if, elif and else Statements with Examples
  8. Python for Loop: Lists, Dicts, enumerate() and zip()
  9. Python Type Conversion: Implicit vs Explicit Type Casting
  10. Python Read File Line by Line: for Loop, readlines()

3. Python Basics

The language fundamentals, the editor setup and the rules every program follows.

4. Built-in Functions

Functions that are always available without an import, with their syntax and return values.

Functions

General-purpose built-ins for numbers, iterables, input and ranges.

Printing and Output

The print() function and its options for separators, line endings and files.

5. Data Types and Collections

The built-in types, the standard collection classes and the techniques that go with them.

Built-in Types

Strings, numbers and the four core collection types.

Collections and Heaps

Ordered dictionaries, priority queues, top N items and multi-value dictionaries.

Tuple Techniques

Comparing, unpacking and choosing between tuples and lists.

6. String Functions

String methods and checks used in text processing.

7. Flow Control

Conditions and loops, and the statements that change how a loop runs.

8. List and Dictionary Examples

Short programs that solve everyday tasks with lists and dictionaries.

9. Files and JSON

Reading and writing text, CSV and JSON files, and checking files on disk.

Files

Reading files line by line, CSV files, existence checks and checksums.

JSON

Reading, writing and appending JSON, and converting it to and from custom classes.

10. Libraries

Tutorials on third-party libraries for HTTP, HTML parsing and data analysis.

11. Source Code

The updated tutorials are tested on Python 3.14, and the result comments in their code show the real output. The source code for each article lives in the Python-Examples repository on GitHub, in a folder named after the topic, so any example can be cloned and run on another machine.

The official Python Tutorial and the Python Standard Library documentation remain the primary references, and each article links to the relevant pages.

Happy Learning !!
