About

Ctrl+Shift+3 was created because social media got out of hand. A clear sign is the fact that countries are passing laws preventing certain age groups from using social media. This tells you it's as risky as smoking or drinking alcohol.

We offer a calmer, more sane space to share thoughts and links. No likes, follows, or other vanity counts. Just posts and comments.

Maybe this is how the web should be? A little more sane.

Features

Main feed

A shared chronological stream of public posts. Newest first. No algorithmic “For You” by default.

Wave

An optional button beside a feed title. Turn it on to see posts with a lot of comments first, with newer posts favored so old ones do not stay stuck on top (plus light randomization). Turn it off to return to newest-first.

Subs

Subscribe to people from their profile (privately... no follower counts). Your Subs feed shows their main-feed posts in chronological order. No subscribe notifications for now.

Profiles

A public page for each account: bio, posts, optional wall posts from others, and RSS. You control whether visitors can write on your profile.

Comments

Flat comments under a post... readable conversation without nested threads competing for attention.

Thought linking

Connect related posts when the community agrees the link makes sense. Ideas can point to each other over time.

Clicks

Private groups (cliques) for friends, family, or a shared topic. Membership is required to enter. Signed-in people can browse the directory and request to join; moderators decide.

Mentions and pings

Mention someone to get their attention. Pings collect mentions, Click invites, and join-request notices in one place. You can optionally receive a daily email digest of unread pings.

Block

A one-way way to stop seeing someone’s posts and comments, and to limit how they interact with you.

Search and RSS

Find posts by text. Follow public feeds or a profile with RSS if you prefer a reader. Profiles also offer an Embed script (/u/username/rss.js) for sites that cannot fetch RSS directly (for example Neocities).

Display

In Settings under Display, choose Theme: System (follows your device), Light, or Dark. Guests always follow the device. Choose a self-hosted font for the site while you are logged in; everyone else still sees the default Courier look. Fonts are not loaded from Google or other third parties.

Audio

Optional, off by default. In Settings under Audio, turn on UI sound to hear short cues for login, new pings, and link or button clicks.

Direct Connect (beta)

Optional browser-to-browser text chat via WebRTC when possible. If a direct connection cannot be established, the session can fall back to short-lived server chat for that visit only—messages are cleared when you leave and are not kept as history.

Polling Place

Site-wide community questions posted by the platform owner. Signed-in members vote once per poll. You see bars and vote counts only after you vote (or after voting closes). Archived polls stay listed with voting closed.

Polls on posts

On the Feed, in a Click, or on a profile wall, use the poll toggle next to the compose label to post a timed poll instead of a plain thought. Choose how many days voting stays open (1-30). Same one-vote rule; results appear only after you vote, or when the poll ends. These polls live on the post... they are not listed on Polling Place. Poll posts cannot be edited (you can still delete them).

Art

Same compose row: Thought · poll · art. Art opens a 40×40 paint grid (spaces for background). Pick a brush (▪ ■ □ ● ○ ★ █ ·) or the eraser (puts spaces back), and a paint color; changing brush or color only affects new strokes. Clear wipes the whole grid. Spacing is kept exactly when shown. In the feed you see about the first half of the drawing (after any blank top rows), with more for the full piece. Art posts cannot be edited (you can still delete them). Thought posts can use a whole-post body color; art uses per-cell colors from the paint swatches.

Fediverse (optional)

If you opt in under Settings, your main-feed posts and your comments on main-feed posts can be discovered on the Fediverse (for example Mastodon). Off by default. Click, profile, and contact posts are never shared this way.

Moderation

Transparent moderation with logged actions and reasons. Platform and Click moderators can keep spaces usable without silent black-box systems.

Public Contact

A public page for questions and help requests meant for platform moderators... accounts, bugs, or how something works.

Your data

Export your data from Settings (once per day). Delete your account and your writing is replaced with placeholders. Only essential cookies... no ads or tracking.

Bits

Bits are a small public record of participation on a profile. Open Bits next to Wall to see them.

You earn one bit when you create a post, create a comment, or log in (at most one login bit per day). Deleting your own post or comment removes one bit. Bits you earn stay on your profile. They do not drain from inactivity.

Bits are shown as ▦ characters in a tight grid, newest toward the top. Every 10th bit is ▩. Every 50th is ▤ in blue. Every 100th is ▥ in green. Every 10,000th is ▧ in gold.
